I hope its a pretty good friend b/c what kind of Subaru can you get for less than the base price of a MINI?
Unless its used I guess.
Well, if nothing else, good for you for sticking to your budget.
It can be tough sometimes, but you'll be better off in the end

well i can get a new impreza for around $18000...all the mini's around here start at $20,000 new...and while its only $2000, thats a lot right now as i have kicked out my boyfriend of 6 years and am living on my own again and finding all the bills he didnt pay and all that....so i need to get that in order first before i can get the car i want...
right?
right?
Are you looking for a Cooper, or a Cooper S?
Because at my dealership, the '05 Coopers start just below 17k. That's in Buffalo, NY, which doesn't have the price-gouging other dealerships can get away with in cities like Los Angeles.
Also, don't be afraid to buy your MINI from another dealership, even in another state! Drive it home! Many people do this. They buy their mini in another, less densely populated city, perhaps in another state, and drive it home. It isn't a big deal.
You should consider this before settling on a car you really don't want.

Peep - an Impreza's not exactly a crap car. It could be far worse, you could be getting a Cavalier or a Kia!

As far as smacking you - I would have to see your picture first.
As far as the price - base MSRP on a Cooper is $16,950.
I would exhaust all Mini possibilities before doing the Suby thing. But, don't compromise your budget if you can't swing it.
Let us know what you decide.

Stick to your financial guns hon. It sounds like you gotta get your feet on the ground good and solid before you start jumping. If you can swing 18k on a used MINI or the Imprezza then go for it but no more than that if that's what your limit is! Don't forget to include taxes, tags & title (TTT)! Depending on where you live that can be anywhere between $1500 to $3000 ADDITIONALLY. Then there's insurance. In Georgia you have to have comprehensive coverage if you're going to have to have a loan. Depending on how much you put down and what your rate is that will determine your monthly payments. I'm betting you already know all this but time and again I see people shocked at how much it truly costs only after they've committed.
Agreed on the Suby thing. They're great quality cars for the most part. My wife wanted an Outback before she saw how much they were. She settled on a new 05 Hyundai Sonata for just over 18k after TTT. Great on looks, quality & price. Performance...can't have it all for that price.

If you would want to go this route, there are several dealers relatively close to NJ. Call around and see what they haveP.S. Have you been smacked around enough yet?

or
the SAAB 9-2x Aero (27,600) starts at 20,425 with the GM Employee discount for everyone
AKA: SAABaru WRX

 Peep, definitely look into buying a Cooper before "settling" for a Suby. Subies are nice, too, but I bet with a little legwork you may find a MINI! Best of luck, sweetie. TAKE THAT (smack smack smackie!)

I just did the same thing with replacing my wife's car. Went out and test drove the subarus/saabarus as well as scion Xb and a couple others not worth mentioning. I came home realizing that a Cooper was the better financial choice, especially since it will hold its value over the next couple years while the Subaru value plummets.
I would get on the phone and call every MINI dealer in the country and see what is in stock. You will probably find a Cooper that will work for you!

i will do a power search at lunchtime and see waht i can find -- i did have my heart set on a MCS -- but i will still love a MC wont i?
Why in 5 days?
Your Birthday is coming up, maybe someone who knows your secret (ok, not-so-secret) desires will spot you some $ to get an MCS?
And as to smacking you... Someoine above said it right.. we need to see your picture first..

Since you want a MINI, I think that you would be happier in a MC than an Impreza (not that there's anything wrong with that
) The times that I've driven a Cooper I found them to still be quite peppy and fun cars. And whenever you have the funds to upgrade to an MCS, your MC will be worth more than a base Impreza. Oh, and your puppy should be quite happy in the back of a MINI. Lay the seats down, open up the boot and let him hop in and out. Everybody is happy in a MINI, especially puppy dogs, just ask Lot15 and his girl Ruby

If you are really that tight on cash, why are you thinking about a new car in the first place? Get an old reliable honda for a few grand, pay your **** off, get what you want when you can afford it.
If I could add to the already growing comments, we test drove a couple Subarus and almoast bought one. Something stopped us weather it was carma, common sense or what I don't know but after deciding on a model and going home we talked and said skip it, lets get what we really want. The subaru wasn't bad but it had a cheaper build quality than what we are used to. We decided to keep the VW till after winter and order a new Mini. We like the build quality better and especially the resale over the subaru. If you want an S why not look for either a new or used Mini, keep it for a couple years till you get your finances in order (I am right there with you on that) then go for the S. You get a car that is close to what you really want, it won't loose nearly as much value as the subaru will and you will be happy.

Just a thought, but Morristown MINI has 4 base Coopers, all under 30k miles, and all under 18K....

the reason i have 5 days is because my current car will last that long (according to the mechanic...its a long and sad story...) and i thought about going the used honda route...but that will jack up my insurance about $2000 because they are high risk stolen cars all the time and i live in an ok area but close enough to the cities to make it a problem (at least that is what my insurance said)...
plus my other thought is that should i get a new mini before i have a garage to put her in?
anyway - i have already applied for financing on mini's web site and have sent email requests to a couple of dealers around about pre-owned cars i have found in all the states close by so i will see what happens....
