If you have bonnet stripes do you also have boot stripes?
I'm about to replace the bonnet stripes on my CR/W 03 MC. They lost a battle with a neighborhood cat. Fortunately he didn't hurt the paint. I'm wondering if maybe I should order boot stripes with the new bonnet stripes.
Please try to ignore the goofy sun on my state's license plate.
I think I read somewhere that they were stopping production of that license plate and potentially swapping them out for another style plate at no charge. You are correct, they are hideous! I would have purchased a specialty plate just to AVOID that one!
So I don't hijack the thread completely, I don't have stripes on my MINI, but if I did, I would definitely get the boot stripes as well!
Actually, they announced the other day that starting in January "Mr. Smiley" will be gone and replaced with a more sensible plate. But not for free.
I considered one of the specialty plates but, if I understand correctly, you have to pay for them every year. I'm kinda cheap that way.
I think the back of the MINI (MC or MCS) can get a bit cluttered. I would do boot stripes, but only after taking off all the letters and dealer tags. The cleaner, the better, IMO. Also, I think the straight, sharp stripes clash with the smooth curved boot lines. I do like Tuls' stripes that go all the way down the front & back bumpers, though. Just my opinion.
I don't have boot stripes (yet), but I think they look cool. Especially if you remove the "Cooper" lettering prior to install, and then re-install the lettering after the stripes are on.
My bonnet stripes were installed at the factory (2005). Too bad, because this is the setup that I really wanted. I like the reverse contrast across the roof.
To replace it now would mean that I'd have to remove the clear-bra and the bonnet stripes, then restripe, then add new clear-bra...too much expense.
Oh yeah, what did the cat do to damage the stripes but not the paint? That seems really odd.
It's possible there could be some damage under the stripes that I haven't noticed. The cat left three little slits in the white vinyl stripes. The slits appear black and show up badly, at least to me. I tried to touch-up the spots with white paint but only made it look worse. Sometimes this happens when I try to fix stuff.
Anyway, I haven't found any cat scratches anywhere else in the paint...yet, anyway.............
I got these put on today. I'm not used to them, so I'm not sure I like them yet. The nice thing about vinyl stripes is that they come off if you want them to.
