R50/53 Who else only parks like this?
#1 parking taking up 2 spots is lame .... just as lame as the people you are accusing of "possibly" dinging your MINI
#2 where the heck do you people live? I live in NYC, park all over Manhattan, malls, and in 2 years I accumulated one door ding ... yes ... ONE!
#3 it's only a car people ... some people tend to forget

MINI owner or not... That's a supreme jackass parking job if I've ever seen...
Have some respect for other people who want to park in the adjacent spot. I don't like the fact that my '05 MCS got dinged two weeks after buying it but such is life.
Between the lines next time.

Back in my younger days I would pull my old VW right up next to the driver's side door of anyone who did this - within an inch or so - making it impossible for the driver to get back in on that side. Did it more times than I can remember, as I live in Dallas and there are scores of people who believe their car is worthy of two parking spots.
Didn't matter to me if I got a scrape from it when the other car pulled out as my car was an old beater and I knew that no matter how much damage was done to mine that more $$ value would be lost by the other guy. I felt justified in doing this as I saw it as a way of making the point that no one's car is worth two parking spaces unless everyone's is.
I still have the urge to do it today. I miss those simpler times.

As others have mentioned here, parking at the far end of the lot is probably the best way to protect your car of door dings. Everyone knows that when I park they better bring their walking shoes!

It reminds me of the old Christmas story (supposedly true) where an elderly lady is waiting for a parking spot at Christmas time while someone pulls out. Before being able to pull in, some young kid pulls into the spot in his???? little sports car ???? and says "that's what you can do when your young and quick"
As the kids head to the store, they hear a crashing noise behind them as the elderly lady smashes into the ???? pushing it out of the space in her CADILLAC and exclaims "Thats what you can do when your old and rich"
Moral? Dunno but IMHO your just looking for trouble.
I avoided this thread, but just read it. Fascinating vitriol. I suspect responses on a Porsche Club of America or Ferrari Owners Club forum would be quite different. After all most MINI drivers don't believe they are or need to be masters of the universe--hence the purchase of a MINI.
Whenever I see someone has taken up 2 spaces I wonder why the car or driver merits special status. Sometimes the car is quite ordinary so I suspect the driver has a disability. I know people who can't maneuver very well into perpendicular spaces. I know a lot of people who are allowed to park in ADA spaces. But whenever I see a Porsche or Ferrari parked like that I just attribute it to that master of the universe complex.
I appreciate ZenAudio's photo. Too bad it wasn't posted sans captions. Then NAM members might have commented on its composition and irony. I designed a house in Cambria and got to know the area. It's quite picturesque. But could any place live up to the name Moonstone Beach? I can think of a couple but they aren't anywhere near San Luis Obispo.
Perhaps this is not correct, but I was told that the finishes on today's cars are much tougher than the paint used 25 years ago. As a result scratches or marks (unless delivered with some purpose) are not as prevalent now. If true, then that may be another reason so many NAMmers on this thread have been able to report that their flanks remain dingless despite the passage of years. Or is that not due to better paint?

I just laughed SO hard at this post! Bwahahahahaha! Nope....there are plenty of us with paint chips, morkie!

Nice attempt at diplomacy, though...thanks!

After reading twelve pages of responses to the initial post, I guess the answer to the question "Who else only parks like this" is.....no one, dude. Just you. Glad to hear you are 100% "door ding free". I wouldn't join in the others that would key your car, but I will say that you had better watch out, 'cause karma has a tendency to bite back.
I'd watch out for old ladies in Cadillacs if I were you

Too bad they only offer the stickers in "low tack" versions. How about extra super tack? *evil grin*

People are *********s and don't care about other peoples hard earned vehicles. I live in the DC metro area and see some ridiculous soccer mom in her E500 Benz or Lexus open her door and crush another on a daily basis. I received a key job last week for no reason in a parking garage. It will need repaint in order to fix( very deep). Am I PISSED??? OH YEAH!!. the next ding I receive will be deadly to the car next to me. How so
, A SIZE 11 INTO THE DOOR , NOT A DING. People need to learn manners. At that point I will start to occupy one spot or not park at an angle in a single spot. I know it's just a car, BUT IT'S MINE TO ABUSE NOT OTHERS!!! I work hard and respect other peoples property all I ask is to respect mine.
