How High has your MINI been?

I was going to ask how high have you been in your MINI. But maybe that question would not get the answers I was asking for.

Here we are on top of Mt. Hamilton, near San Jose, Calfornia. Only 4,200 feet, but the highest this MINI has been so far. Planning to go over the Sierras soon and will reach at least 9,000 feet.

So how high has your MINI been?

Pikes

14,110ft.

But, that's pretty easy when you used to live right by Pikes Peak.
I think you can get another 100ft on Mt Evans, though.

What about some Alaska folk--any drivable roads up there, above 14K? Maybe a little too snowy?

Been up to several passes in Colorado, 10-11K feet, no problems - well, other than the lack of oxygen for us AND the car!!

Oh, and I'd NEVER take Earl up the Pikes Peak Highway. . .too much wear and tear. Now if I could just talk someone out of a few hours in a WRX STi. . .

I didn't know...

that my car was getting into my stash!

I drove over Tioga pass no problem one the way back when I bought my car in Salt Lake (I live in SF bay area). In general, boosted cars have little or no problem. Don't know about a NA Mini though....

Tioga Pass (see above).

Sonora Pass, only 9624 ft. but with a 26% grade in spots.

Looks like I'll have to go east for the really good summits!

Seriously, there are only two times when I long for an MCS rather than my trusty MINI: on serious mountain passes like this, and almost any time the air conditioning is on and sucking up power...

The base of Mammoth is around 8900-9000 feet. The village is a little lower than that.

Greatest altitude for us has been the summit of Clingman's Dome, at 6643 feet. (This is also the highest point on the Appalachian Trail.)

Actually, the MINI had to stay a few hundred feet below that in the parking lot, since the rangers might not appreciate him trying to drive up the trail to the summit. Too bad though, since it is nicely paved, and wide enough for a MINI to navigate and still leave room for peds.

For those interested, Clingman's Dome is located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and not too far from the Dragon. If memory serves me correctly, it could be done as a day trip from the Dragon.

Being on a relatively flat island with nowhere to go...

So far I park at about 680 ft and sometimes get up to about 900 ft when I climb a mountain to some scenic sight (like a tourist).

Many a day I spend down at sealevel inhaling the thick air.

If I could get over the the big island of Hawaii I could drive up one of the large volcanoes but I'm not sure how high I could go before the road would be closed off. The Mauna Kea summit is about 13,796 ft above sea level.

I'd probably get sick trying to drive up too fast. Gotta stop and get aclimated along the way at one of the camps.

I went over the Rockies on I-70 in my MINI. That's gotta be pretty high.
Anyone know the highest altitude along Interstate 70?
(It's somewhere near 14,000 no?)

Rocky Mtn National Park-

Trail Ridge Road between Estes and Grand Lake opening day this year. Over 12,000, but I don't know the exact altitude. Snow piled 4 times higher than the MINI.

The highest point I know of along I-70 in Colorado is the Eisenhower Tunnel West Portal at 11,158 ft. Vail pass is 10,666 ft.

The highest my MINI has been is 12,050 ft on Trail Ridge Road.

So far, the Colorado numbers are holding the top spots in this thread.
