Is your Evaporator wet?

I was in the passenger seat the other day and happened to be barefoot.
(yes I hate to be in the passenger seat). I felt something wet and cold on my left foot. Right behind the center console on the passenger side is a metallic box, that appears to be the A/C evaporator (CORRECTED from condenser). It was covered in water droplets.

I called the dealer, they said it's normal to have that much water there.

Of course I live in North Carolina and it is extremely humid.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed much condensation on theirs?

Thats the evaporator, the condenser is under the hood. The Evap should sit over a tray which has a drain. You shouldnt notice any water on the carpet... but maybe some would roll out from a tight turn.
I noticed a nice puddle of water under the car when the car sits with the AC on. This is good as there seems to be a large temp difference which causes the condensation... Like you said... its been real humid here in Charlotte.... The AC works great....

My friend at work had this problem with hie MCS. He took it to the dealer and they fixed it. Somehow the drain tube was not routed correctly from the factory.

Thanks Mike, ...evaporator. Well that makes a little more sense why it's wet.
i'll change the title of this post. (the SA called it a condenser)

People associate water with condenser.. The condenser is on the high pressure side and is the radiator looking thing that sits in front of the radiator.
It turns the high pressure gas back into liquid state by cooling it.
The Evaporator (low pressure side) is the where the heat is absorbed from inside the car along with the humidity.
In science speak, there is no such thing as cold, Only absence of heat.
I always tell my wife that when she complains its too cold... She laughs at me and calls me an idiot nerd... mostly true...

I used to work on AC systems a long long time ago... wasnt trying to make you look bad... but the SA should have known better...

no problemo

good answer!

that's why I post questions on this forum, to get really cool answers like that.

Many folks on this form know much more than the dealers themselves!

thanks

JJ
