ebay pic usage?

I think I've seen this car here and I don't think the owner would like his car AND PLATES posted up on ebay!

Anybody know who this is?

(this is exactly why we blank out our plates!!!)

I believe I know who the eBay seller is. If so, he's a member of this community that has a long history of being a very positive contributor. I'll PM him. All I'm going to ask is that based on that, let's not go jumping to any conclusions and give the person the benefit of the doubt.

The seller says he is my friend and that he took the pictures himself. I don't know who he is and know for a fact that the pics were taken by me. I am just removing my pics that he used from my gallery and replacing them with pics with my plates blacked out.

I'm mostly bothered by the fact that he/she didn't ask to use my pics first.

Since they didn't even ask you I'd just take the pictures down. Its really not so difficult to check and get permission before using someone else's photo for something you are selling! Frankly, I'd be tempted to replace the linked pics with something unexpected...

Believe me I whole heartedly agree, asking permission (and coming to an agreement with the photographer) before using other people photos is important.

Do me a favor though. Don't substitute the photos for something else less savory, because you'll be doing it on NAM using the NAM galleries and our policies apply.

That issue is the only thing stopping me . But I guess part of it is a lesson to me to not post pics of my cars or other cars with their license plates.

SandToast I want to thank you for bringing this to my attention

I have one word that sums up my actions anytime I find out that someone is linking to pictures of mine without permission and for their own gain:

Goatse.

Is this savory enough?

And you could post this as the aero kit

Peace!

He's your friend, he took the pictures himself, but when you took your pix down, the pictures he took himself turned into three little red x's. That's very mysterious... not.

well this is certainly interesting. i'm the one who's hosting the auction and selling the aero kit. while i acknoweldge not asking permission from the owner to use the pics in the auction, read the auction carefully. never once do i say that the pics i'm using for the aero kit are the ones for sale nor from the owner for sale. i just used it as a reference.

regardless, i see you have removed your pics from NAM. let me ask you something though, how is someone capable of stealing your car when they see your plates on an ebay auction? look at my signature, that's got my license plate in it. every day, hundreds of people see your car and your license plate, do you see them trying to steal it?

i'm just trying to wrap my head around why you would be so worried. your car looks freaking fantastic with the kit on it, i just wanted to showcase that fact.

i apologize though for any convenience.

Reason for not showing plates...

A few years back when I owned a prelude, I frequented the prelude forums...
On most forums, people post what kind of mods, aftermarket accessories, etc.. they have on their cars. Makes for a nice shopping list for a would-be thief.

Well I remember one instance where a guy got the plate info off the forum and somehow found out where one of the members lived. Stole the modded prelude and stashed it behind his garage under a cover.

A few months later he started selling parts off the stolen car.

Fortunately, the members figured out what was going on and were able to get the police involved and catch the guy.

Anyhow, if you post your own pics with your plate, you're taking a risk like that. It's a good idea to mask your plate before posting pics. The way the web works, you never know who is going to be 'borrowing' your pics.

I've seen on some forums where people have actually 'borrowed' someone elses pics and claimed they were theirs, etc...

Ahhh, this reminds me...

A few years back when I was moderately involved with ACVW's (current 73 bug out of commission right now - some idiot hit my rear end, had work done, but it still is not in tip top shape, ugh), there was a simple auction for a shifter ****. The person selling the **** did not ask for permission -> the person hosting the picture noticed hits, and found out who was linking it. He p-shopped Yoda (with the shifter ****!) saying something like, "Steal you must not." Every day he'd change the graphic. The guy with the eBay auction had to explain why the image was like it was. Pretty funny, mostly harmless.

I agree with red. The plate doesn't seem like a big deal. A thief would more likely come here and look through the galleries and forums and see your pics for himself than to track down eBay cars just hoping for something good. I would be honored too.
