Once again I come with a question about something I just realized. You see after building my MINI for about the 1000th time I decided to see what the car would look like with a chrome grill. I loved it, but it added the chrome mirrors which are just not appealing to me. I want my white mirrors! Any way past this problem? If an MA sees this, is it possible to order the grill chromed and not the mirrors?

When you build your mini just order the car with out the mirrors. there is a way to just order the chrome grill wby itself on the build your own. It's in the assesories part. Your dealer can change that too when they put in the order to the factory.


Remember there are over 2 million different ways you can build your mini.

Not from factory. If you order the chrome grille by itself, then that is handled as a dealer installed accessory and that means extra $$$ for installation labor charges (or you could do it yourself, not hard but requires the removal of the front bumper cover).

Since you don't like the chrome mirror covers (I love mine as the mirrors don't stick out so much as with the white covers) ask yourself if you also like/dislike the chrome boot handle above the rear license plate, as that is also included in the chrome exterior package for the MCS.

Here is what I would do:

I would order the chrome exterior pack from factory. Ask the dealer that upon receiving the car, they "swap" the chrome covers for a white mirror cover pair at no extra cost to you. Voila! problem solved. You'll have your full chrome grille from factory, thus saving the extra expense for having the dealer fit the part aftermarket. The mirror covers are very easy to swap... In fact 1000 times easier than removing the front bumper cover to install the lower slats for the chrome grille IMHO.

My '04 MCS had the OEM chrome grille and chrome mirror caps installed at the dealer, because at the time the factory chrome pack was not yet offered.

When I ordered my '05 MCS CR/W I ordered the exterior chrome pack from factory and the fit is much better than the install done to my '04 MCS.

If you want to get the chrome bits from factory you must order the full exterior chrome pack. If you order the bits separately, then that is handled as dealer installed accessories.

It is much cheaper to buy the whole chrome pack from factory than order the bits separately and pay installation labor charges on top of that.

 

To me the white mirror caps look "cute" but make the wing mirrors stick out too much. I prefer the chrome caps because make the car look sleeker, less common and the mirrors are not as big and obvious as with the standard white caps.

What color is your preference? For my taste I love chrome. But I also retained the chrome griill when I got the Aero Kit so the mirror caps in chrome look great.

Exactly!! That's precisely why I have 'em!!! If your MINI has a white roof, as mine does, the white mirrors are a great compliment.

If YOU want white, you can do it...let your MA know what you want and don't take no for an answer. Mirror caps are too small a thing to not get right!!

btw, I have seen chrome mirror on MC40s and such (even w/ a white roof)....very nice as well!!

 

You can always order the chrome package and I'm 99.9% sure you'd find someone on here that will swap w/ you in a second!

Woa, big resonse. Thanks guys. I didn't even know that the boot handle also got chromed. Hmmm, I'll have to mull over the chrome vs. white thing for a while. At the very least I'll get the chrome package and then I'll have them swap out for white if I decide to go for them.

 

Forget the mirrors, do the whole damn car!
