Phil Wicks Driving Academy at Autobahn in Joliet, Il

Anyone around planning on doing the Phil Wicks school at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Il? Dates are July 23 & 24. I can't do it this time but I have been looking at the track site. It looks great. I think I would like to try to make the drive there if Phil goes another time.

Are you going to play in Squirt or Demon? I just did Talledega Gran Prix and I took Celeste the purple Mini instead of Casper the MINI. She was fun at that track.

We were just at Mini Meet East and Phil is discounting the Autobahn school a bit. I wish we could go but can't afford that much time off right now. I love going to the different tracks.

I'll be bringing squirt. I'd love to take the demon, but it's too far to drive for me. If I had a trailer, I'd bring both! Last time Phil was in town I had both there with a little help from my friends.

Maybe now since my wife has a MINI on order, she'll come to a track day!

I noticed you had one on order in your signature. I thought maybe you were giving up your '02. Minis and MINIs have a way of reproducing sometimes. At the moment we have two MINIs and 6 Minis laying around. There are also two more Minis, belonging to others, here in hospital.

I hope your wife will do a track day. What you learn in car control could be a life saver in everyday traffic.

I will be there with FLASH2 and my Dad will be there with his 64 Austin S works racecar. Saturday is the north course and Sunday is the south course. It should be a blast!

I signed up and paid right after the school at Putnam. Didn't know of any discount, though, other than what I got for being a club member. I can't wait to try this again...as you said, it's sooo helpful to learn what you can expect from your car and what it can expect from you as we drive the Dragons, twisties, Interstates and other life's highways....

Hey Red -

Not sure if you saw my other post, but it looks like I'll be at the event after all. I'm psyched - should be taking delivery of the car next week!

If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive hotel in the City that is still fairly nice, check out the Westin River North. You should be able to find something for around $150 there.

Cheers,
Mark

BTW for those who've not yet been to Autobahn, here is a video of a lap of the NORTH track (the shorter one)...

CLICK! (Takes a while to load - IIRC it's 9 megs

Gabe,
Glad to hear that you'll be there. All of the STLMINI folks look forward to seeing the Chitown gang! See you soon!

I will be in the Advanced, with Instructor (Hope to get signed off later in the afternoon)

Bilstein PSS9 are now on, car being balanced and aligned today, more mods to follow

Sure, sounds good. I'd love to get a student with a modded Mini.

In fact, I told a friend of mine who wanted me to instruct him that I was holding out for a Mini owner, and he's got a brand new Benz SLK55!

My son and I have both signed up and will be sharing my stock '04 MCS. This will be the first time either of us has attended any sort of advanced driving school so it should prove exciting. If I understand correctly, one of us will be in a classroom session while the other is on the track.
