R50/53 Driving Stick Help!
Congrats on the car.
I blip the gas to about 2k rpms, then while lessening throttle angle
I linearly clutch-out gently.
The rev goes down a little bit, car starts to move, my clutch is
completely engaged and I apply more gas exponentially.

Kenchan,
Thanks! Ill have to see what i can make out with all of this and give it a shot. So around 2000rpm is where i should give it? What does everyone else have it around before letting the clutch out?
By the way Kenchan the Pilo intake is great! I installed it the day after i got the car and i love it. I have the back wall removed and it sounds sweet!! Thanks again!

I tried reading all the posts... but it took a while, so i'll just post how i learned and see if it helps...
I learned ON a hill. My boyfriend took me to a slightly steep hill at a local walmart (which has since been torn up and remodeled :( ) That way i had to learn the hard way first... and i'm very glad i did. When i got to a level area, it was cake. I never used the parking brake. I lifted my foot off the clutch until it grabbed, then pushed it back down. I repeated this until i got a good idea on where it was. I started out by revving up to 3k rpms, and then pulling off the clutch. When i bunny hopped, i just pushed the clutch in, rolled back to a level surface, and tried again. Once i got the 3k rpms down, i dropped it to 2k rpms start up. Then slowly moved down the rpms. Once i got to 1000-1500, though, i bunny hopped it more (by bunny hopping i mean the car was "lurching" forward cause i wasn't giving it enough gas) So for punishment, he made me push the gas and make it STOP bunny hopping, rather than giving up and pushing the clutch in. Once i took it to the streets i panicked and stupidly gave up. Only because i didn't have a manual car, i just wanted to learn. In the meantime, i pulled up a how-it-works site, and looked up what the gears look like in a manual transmission, and how the gears mesh together, and how the clutch works with it. Then i tried an online "shift" and when i shifted to 2nd gear, it showed the clutch move the gears. I can't remember the site to save my life.
A couple months later, i found a car i wanted BAD that was manual. I tried to drive my boyfriend's car again, but got upset again that i couldn't get it. We drove 3 hours to look at the car anyhow. I tried to drive it. I had ONE good take off, and got the shifting perfect. When i came to a stop and tried it again (and again and again) i kept getting more and more frustrated and gave up. A week later, i BOUGHT the car. (i loved it so much, i couldn't pass it up)I drove up 3 hours again to get it, and drove back home for 5 hours (we got a little lost) so i knew i had atleast 3 hours of crunch time where i just paid the guy for this car, that has to make it back to my house. When i came to a slight hill, i put my emergency flashers on so people would move to the other lanes. It took alot of stress off of me, and gave me a little room to roll back before taking off. I got stuck having to turn left at one point to go to walgreens for a pit stop, and of course, people were behind me. I stalled out while panicing, and the lady behind me was stuck in the intersection because i stalled at the entrance of a parking lot with my rear end hanging out, and she decided to jet out behind me before the traffic came. She laid on her horn until i could start it up and get it going again. I was so scared and upset i pulled in the parking lot and sat there a few minutes sobbing and shaking with the lady cussing me out because i "almost got her hit" I didn't say anything. What was the point? I work at a law firm, i know better :P
After i chilled out, i went back on the road. I gained enough momentum i drove the last 4 hours PERFECT, put on 600 miles that week, and then 25,000 more before selling it back to it's previous owner 8 months later to get my mini
I hope your experiences aren't as bad as mine, but for me that extra push got me going. I agree completely about the vacant parking lot. Just get down the point wher ethe clutch grabs, and right before you hit it, slowly get your RPM's up, and pull off the clutch at the same speed as you're gassing. If you have to, sit on a sofa and practice just that... getting both of your legs in sync. I used to mock my boyfriend from the passenger seat while he drove... i believe that helped a little getting a technigue to use... then you can just develop your own once you get it down.
