My 02 MC makes a weird exhaust sound when accelerating in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. I wouldn't be surprised if I made any modifications to my car, but that will came later. By looking at an unmodified MCO dyno torque curve you can see a slight dip between 3400-3600 RPMs. I would assume that it has something to do with the sound. I can tell that I'm in that RPM range just by listening to the exhaust without looking at the gauges. Its kind of an annoying sound.

Any ideas?

 

That is odd... can you describe the sound? My Cooper's exhaust never does anything abnormal...

 

The note is normal until about 3400 RPMs, then it gets really hollow until it reaches about 3600 RPMs and it becomes normal again. It only happens in 3rd gear and above.

 

Hmm, dunno... take it to the dealer and show 'em.
