R50/53 Painful winter.
Having a car like this in the snow as you only car is hard. Each puddle of slush that I go through is like a knife in the heart. I find myself obssevily cleaning my car both in and out, only to get blasted with more snow and salt. I even find myself trying to "dodge" puddles, and stay clear of the spray coming off the tires from the car in front of me. Anyone else this insane?
I hear your pain man.... i just can't keep it clean..it drives me nuts..i clean it...park it in the garage..stare at it..than i have to go drive it...and dang...there it is all dirty again...come on summer, show me some dry roads...i have yet to see any ...although i have only had my car just a week!
This thread ought to get together with the "What is it about this car?" thread as there's an awful lot of moto-love going on in both
Maybe I should move to FL. (then of course I'd need a monkey too...and that may be hard on the couch

Yes:
That is why my car is hybernating in the heated garage until spring. I was dodging puddles in the summer. I can't deal with it getting all messed up with the salt, sand and 1/8' stone the DOT puts down on the road in the winter here in Connecticut.
Can't wait for spring to Motor again.

I was in NY for the holidays, and not only saw more MINI's there in a week then I have seen in South Florida in the last 6 months, but I was horrified with how durty they were! I know it is hard up there in the winter months, but I think I would go crazy cleaning if I lived up there!
i hear you Nyillistrator, I hate seeingmy mini covered in snow, i wish I had a garage for her. :???:
But I just keep waiting for those hot summer days when I can open my sunroof and have a clean car for more than just a day.

Yes....yes it's driving me nuts.....
On Christmas we got a surprise snow storm here and Dee was FILTHY. So I took her to the car wash last Saturday. By the time I was done with her she was positively gleaming. A mile outside the car wash I was forced to drive through an enormous puddle.
Luckily it's been raining here now so she doesn't look too bad. As soon as it stops it's back to the old car wash.

At least you all have seen snow this year. I live in Minnesota for god's sake, and I have not had to take out the snow shovel one single time this year. We have had 3 overnight dustings that I merely had to brush off the walk with a broom. We are having perfect Motoring weather (provided you are outfitted with the Cold Weather Pack)! Though I am sure we'll get pounded just as soon as My MINI gets here in February, and I won't get to see it clean until May. :???: :???: :???:

>>As I get ready to drive out into another winter storm this morning (to my MINI dealer to get my airbag light turned off/repaired) I have to note that it's just a car. If you can't bring yourself to drive it for fear of getting it dirty, then what good is it? Go buy a really nice couch...and you can keep that in your living room looking very sharp year 'round. OK, sorry about that, but you get the idea.

>>I will confess that I'll be VERY happy when my MINI gets its customary after-service bath at the dealer later this morning. Then of course it'll be filthy by the time I get home.

jsun,
One more clean freak here, I think you said it quite well. We want the car to look as clean as something special should, but we have to drive them as well. We clearly can't have our cake and eat it too. So we make a choice drive it or park it for the winter, if you drive it you can count on something bad happening, paint chips, W/S damage, etc. Hopefully all damages can be repaired in the spring or summer.
The truly gifted people are the ones who can buy a new car and only drive it on the best days. Some would say they aren't enjoying the car at all, but they are in their own way. We all have friends who collect money, you know the ones, they save and save and never spend it on anything, are they enjoying their money? I always think highly of those who don't expose their cars to winter damage because 20 years from now I'll be able to go to a car museum and see their preserved car and through it relive all of the memories that I am creating right now. Woah, getting too deep here, I better quit before I say something quotable.
So what does a bad winter for a really nice couch look like? Is it something like 3 months in a frat house or ......?

That! is why I have a 220,000 mile 1990 Corolla. For the, well, basically all winter. When I get mine, man-o-man, when I get mine, it will be the new baby. Waitin on it is about as much fun as a stomach pump.

Really nice couches are both durable and attractive; and since they clean up very well they stay usable and attractive for many years. Just like my MCS
