What Am I Gonna Do?

Help!

My MCS has arrived at the VDC, and I am told that it will be delivered to Classic as early as May 2nd. This is almost 3 weeks early!

I have a business trip planned at the end of May which will allow me to pick up"Sparky" and drive back over the Memorial Day Weekend.

So there's the quandry: my baby is going to be sitting there, alone, for the better part of a month! This is almost too much to stand...

Julie has promised to take some pictures and email them to me, but I think this just might make the anticipation worse .

Please, someone...anyone...give me some ideas to pass the time!

Simple. Buy me a plane ticket from LA to Classic. I will gladly dirve your baby to you as fast as I can! All you got to do is fly me back to LA. Now, doesn't that sound good?

Go to http://www.motoringgear.com and order one of those "MINI Covertible Pedal Cars" for $189. Then drive around in that for 3 weeks. This will provide a realistic simulation of your motoring experience for the short term until you can get your full size one.

If it were me I know I would not wait. I'd find a cheap airline ticket and go there the first weekend possible and drive it back then. Supposedly, holidays aren't the best time to be on roadtrips anyway - plus you'd have it in your sweatly little hands for Memorial Day at home

I'll go over there and "break it in" for you... It's on my way home from work...

I agree...it's worth it just for the hopeless distraction and mental anguish which you will inevitably be experiencing. Heck, I'll bet your SO/spouse, employer, coworkers, friends, and even local pub owner will pitch in for an airline ticket just to get your sorry pathetic, hang-dog, sob-story, MINI-less self off their doorsteps.

Mine has been at Classic 2 weeks now. Julie sent me a photo. I assume it was of my car and not a stock MINI photo. There was a twinkle in its HIDs and its grill seemed to droop slightly in entreaty. Perhaps I should have asked for a copy of that day's paper to be placed on its bonnet for reassurance. I have had the image projected onto a 60" screen in order to verify. By the clarity and continuity of the background I believe it has not been manipulated in Photoshop. Magnifying the interior view through the windshield I glimpsed that the upholstery is as specified (no interior shot) although it has been deviously obscured by plastic wrap. It may be someone else's MINI being held hostage there and made up to look like mine, but I felt an empathy toward it and could I, I ask, have felt that for just anyone's MINI? I suppose. But it has served me well during these weeks--do you know how many minutes there are in one week--to believe that my MINI has not been abused and that, at least, it is in the company of others. But if you should venture to Classic I wonder if you could look in on my MCS. You will have no trouble distinguishing it from the others. It will be parked all alone in the far and isolated corner of the lot pining away for its owner, automatic wipers sweeping and stopping and sweeping and stopping...

I am Midnight shift Mentor PD (where Classic is) and believe me on many a slow week night before I got mine, I would cruise through the lot and eye all the Mini's waiting for delivery. Each Mini waiting for delivery has a little yellow tag on its windshield with the stock number and customer name on it. Most of them waiting for delivery are kept in the rear of the Toyota and Lexus lot where no one really goes.

Now for those that have never been to the Classic Auto Campus, it is huge (Mini, Chevy, Ford, BMW, Toyota, Lexus, VW, Mazda all right there). To make you feel better about your car being safe, Classic has one hell of a security system, with cameras everywhere and a security guard monitoring those cameras all the time. Plus, where Classic is, 3 of our PD's zones kinda all intersect right there so it is very well patroled. Theres really never a problem there, so dont worry, I'll make sure your Mini is safe until you can pick it up.

Cave in and spend another $1,000 to have it shipped to you! What's $1,000 more in the whole scheme of things?!?!?!?

Thanks so much for this report on Classic's security, Paul B! I'm sure that you've reassured a bunch of worried MINIacs and encouraged more business for your dealership.

I too appreciate Paul B's description. I did not know the Classic Campus (which is the email address we customers use) is really a campus of auto dealerships. Odd combination of brands. Chevy and Ford, but not Chrysler. I get it. There is probably another auto campus across the street with the drive-in restaurant and gas station. I thought my MINI was coming from a little dealership in a small town in the Midwest. Always learning something on NAM.

Add-on's

Actually, a good idea would be to buy all the dealer add-on's now, at the NAM discount, and have classic install them now, during your downtime. Now would be the perfect time to get the JCW kit installed!

Otherwise, you'll have to turn around and give the car back again when it's time to put on the Factory Alarm, Rear Fog Light, stripes, driving lights, Homelink rearview, IPOD adaptor, aero kit, JCW Kit, JCW Wheels, JCW brakes, suspension........

Let them do all those things while you're already waiting.

That is just at the Campus in Mentor, and its not one big dealership. Mini is at one corner, at the other corner is Bmw, the other corner is Chevy. Next to that is Vw and Mazda. Then in a row next to BMW is Toyota and Scion, Lexus, Classic Autobody and then a huge brand new Ford store. At different locations, they also have Honda, Nissan, Cadillac, Pontiac, Mercury, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Buick. I know this because my wife works for Classic and I am reading it off her business card.
