I've read alot on this board about Mini owners having some pretty serious problems with their Mini vehicles and I'm getting just a bit concerned. I'd like to see the other side of the coin and hear from you Mini owners who have had little or no problems with their cars. Mine is a 2002 Indi blue with white top and just about 3,000 miles on the odometer. It's never been back for service since we took delivery on 9/21/02 and runs like a charm. It was built in June of 2002. Could you please list the following:

Vehicles year
Assembly month
Mileage
Problems(if any)
Overall satisfaction with your Mini

Thanks alot and maybe we talk more people into buying Mini vehicles instead of possibly scaring them away.

I got my Silg Green MC on July 18, 2002. I have approximately 5k miles and am happy to report that I haven't had any problems except for a flat tire.

I got my BRG Cooper CVT on July 7, 2002, there are 5700 miles on it now, and I haven't had a single problem. No flat tires, no nav system glitches, nothing. Oh wait, I tell a lie, the leather popped off of the gearshift. That will be fixed when I go in for an oil change. Otherwise, not a problem in the world.

I absolutely LOVE this car! My '02 MCS was built in July and currently has over 5700 miles. I've had only one annoyance....my passenger side air bag tripped a MIL light at about 4500 miles. Dealer fixed it - no problem. Like I said, more of an annoyance than a real complaint - since I didn't "need" the airbag in the meantime! I've finally talked her into going to the NAIAS with me to shop for a different kid-hauler! Too bad MINI isn't making a "van" yet!

Hey....I LOVE MY MINI! I had some minor problems in the beginning, but they haven't repeated themselves in a couple months. Strange, but hey....I can deal with that.

I drive a....

Pure silver/black Cooper with a CVT
Production date: Early July (I think like July 10th)
Currently with 6500 miles.
Was experiencing a minor engine stumble, but it seems to have corrected itself....hasn't happened in months.
I LOVE MY MINI! I love it! It is the best car I have ever driven and always puts a smile on my face!

Just my 2¢.

Electric Blue MCS 11000 miles delivered june 17 2002
The only problem that I have was the "Reservoir" for the coolant but was fixed at the dealer under warranty.
Also I received the recall letter to change my seat controls, done at the 10k miles before any problems.
I am a proud owner of a MINI

No problems, except for when I messed up the jumpstart, but that didn't cause any problems (Thank God!) I actually think it's faster now- smoke, electricity surge.....hmm...maybe I'm onto something?

Only problem is that I drive it too much, month and a half and I already have 4500 miles, without driving for the past week even. Also the left rear plastic trim piece has come unglued, so it doesn't stay flat against the side, but I will get that fixed, when I get my first oil change.

Overall satisfaction with your Mini
Cooper S....EB/White
Vehicles year 2002
Assembly month July 02
Mileage ~5000
Problems- coolant color change...changed by dealer but not flushed...turning again.
rear hatch lid needs to be changed.
coolant recovery tank leaking.
Overall satisfaction
The car is great. I think MINIUSA.com is the pits. I have emailed them about the coolant....reply..see your dealer. I have emailed them about the coolant recovery tank and the coolant color about 2-3 weeks ago and no reply. I know someone on their fourth tank so I am waiting because I am sure the design will change and a recall announced. I would have to say, of all the new cars I have gotten over the years there have been more problems with the Minis than any I have owned. It is not the first year model new car I have gotten either...one was an Izuzu Trooper...only problem was with rear hinges...replaced without asking when in for service. Another, believe it or not, a Fiat Brava.....zip...no problems for 79,000 miles.
So I have to explain why the 5 smile rating...the car is the most 'fun' car to drive on the road today and that is what matters. Overall, I give two thumbs down to both Mini and BMW, but I have to admit, I never thought much of BMW anyway but I would have gotten the new Mini if it had been built by Yugo, and sometimes I wonder...... There are days, when I am not driving the car, I start thinking...hmmm
Subaru WRX or Boxter but then I go down and I turn the key and it is a MINI. I have always loved Minis. The other truly great thing about the Mini....Lmini....she rocks!!!

2minis: You make very good points!!

I do really love the car, but the customer service is hugely lacking. I think that MINI/BMW success is riding on the coattails of a great car (and a great marketing campaign). I fear that can last only so long... but then again, look at Microsoft.

Even if their success continues without improvement in this area it will come at a cost - they will generate as many fierce enemies as they do uncondiitional loyalists.

Year = 2002 (MCS)
Assembly Month = August, 2002
Mileage = 6750

Problems (if any) = Rattling sunroof (I fixed with stragegically glued foam); Poor acceleration (fully fixed with engine CPU software upgrade); Leaking coolant tank (replaced by MINI service); airbag light on (scheduled to be fixed under warranty tomorrow...probably a wire or seatbelt sensor)

Overall satisfaction = Great! . Even though I've had a few warranty-corrected issues, these have been no more than any other new car I've owned. In my last 4 new cars (japanese, swedish, and 2 american) I've collectively had a transmission rebuilt, a transmission replaced, a headliner rehung, computers upgraded, brake calipers rebuilt, fuel system components recalled, and a multitude of minor electrical system components replaced...ALL UNDER WARRANTY. I don't think I've purchased jinxed cars (in fact, all have had good Consumers Reports ratings and none were first year cars), it's just that I'm pretty critical and don't mind getting things made right under warranty; especially since I intend to own my cars well beyond warranty and figure that I'll get everything I can fixed for free before it truly becomes my fiscal problem.

Point is, in case I haven't said enough already, my MCS is a blast to drive and seems quite dependible to-date.

I'm glad that this tread has appeared, as recently I'm been feeling -- especially with all the talk of people getting locked in/out of their cars and other unusual problems -- that we may be doing more of a disservice to potential MINI owners by frankly scaring them off of a purchase. I think that many of use are eager to see our cars as perfect...which as a mechanical device no car can be. But as far as cars go, the MINI is IMO totally on par.

A veritable newbie, only 2K miles but the only problem I have is nagging fear of:

1. Getting locked in boot with a dead battery
2. Flashing blue lights in rear view mirror from the way I've been driving

Vehicle year 02
Assembly month 08
Mileage ~ 2400
Problems(if any) Couple of rattles here and there. I did go in for the CD 3.1 software update which was not mandatory. Not bad for a new car and really great for a new model. Most new models of any make are plagued with bugs.
Overall satisfaction with your Mini 9 out of 10 (only because 10 should be "perfect&quot

2002 MINI Cooper
Built July 15
6000+ miles
Squeaky seats, coolant color change (but tested it and it's fine)
LOVE LOVE LOVE my MINI! Best car I've ever owned or driven (and we also have a Vette...and I've driven just about EVERYTHING)

With the great warranty, I'm not worried. Something breaks, MINI will fix it!

Cheers!

From: OC brat now living in St Augustine FL
Built April 2002
Over 13k in miles

Hatch latch fixed
Computer upgrage for starting problem
Rear seat (left side) handle was broken (my fault)
It has some rattling noises from road but not often (trying to figure out exactly where)
Cracked windshield but that has to do with moving to the Denver area, everyone gets those here.

All minor stuff, this car has been great but I suppose I am lucky cuz it was one of the first Cooper S's off the line and perhaps more attention was paid to it. I love this car and it loves me back. Don't go there, man you have a dirty mind. How quickly it goes to the gutter.
