I thought the speedo would be distracting, having to glance at it to make sure I was going the proper speed, but I've found that I now drive by the tach.
3,000 RPM seems to be a nice speed for the engine and I find a gear to match.
Anyone else experience this?

I also like to drive using the tach. I try to keep an even 3200
once I get it going. My MCS seems to "like" the speed of 78 mph.

Couldn't of said it better myself.
I always glace at the tach, my S semms to like 3000 rpm too.
Only occationally look at the speedo.
Just turned 1000 miles yesterday, picked it up 12.7.02
Love the DS/W, but got to keep those wheels clean.

Interesting post.....
I have nearly 11k miles on my MCS.
I find myself looking @ the tach much more than the speedometer....
I drive by ..."feel".. always have & I guess always will.
I shift between 4-5K normally......5-7k when I'm having fun and I cruise between 3-4K.

Peace,
D

Ditto. It's all I've seemed to be doing since I first test drove the demo at the dealership. I don't recall ever looking at the speedo that day at all while I was driving, as big as it is.
Most people that ride with me always seem to comment with, "Boy, you must always be able to tell how fast you're going with the speedo THAT big." I usually say no, that I drive by feel with the tach. But then the Nav system people don't have that problem. It's right there in front of them.
Cheers,

I was actually just pondering this very thing this morning on the drive to work. 5th gear/3000RPM=60mph. Very easy thing to pay attention to when on a freeway, in the rain, uphill with corners. I will usually just look at the speedo to get a tach reading for what ever speed I'm cruising at, then just follow the tach after that. Mucho easier.

I also drive by "feel"... However, I still think it would be nice if MINI would include the actual speed as an option on the Tach. computer read out...

I'm another 'feeler' ... old minis didn't have anything - even coopers and cooper S' didn't have a tach; if you wanted one, you added it (the press about how the new one is placed to harken back to the Original is a bit of bunk - that is just where most people strapped it on themselves) - Rip it all out and Fly By The Seat of Your Pants!

I never pay attention to either!

(Just kidding)....I drive by the tach if I am using the steptronic. If I am using the automatic I use the speedo.

I like to shift low when being calm just to feel the torque of the supercharged engine. But of course it's also fun to wind it out. Like 8ball and others, I mostly drive by feel and since this sweet engine seems to know no end I have felt the rev limiter kick in and look down to see my tach almost at 7K.

Today on the freeway there was a guy in a big jacked-up monster jeep that felt the need to blow past my cute little red Mini Cooper at 90 mph.
Interesting. I had no desire to blow past him at 120 mph.
