Well,
My wife gave (2) out of those (10) reasons to me!
1. its a "girls" car...#9
2. she thinks a bunch of clowns are going to jump out of it everytime she sees one parked at a red light... #5
================================
I took her for a ride this past Friday, "she likes a good sporty feeling car"...
All she said was, that drives nice,, well - it would be your car, you can get it if you like it....

Not without there being a MINICCA. BMWCCA is hardly an advocate for MINI, and the various MINI clubs nationwide have shown little inclination to uniting in such a manner... All have established themselves in a way that was convienent for them, and each operates in a different fashion. It would be pretty hard to whip together a national group like BMWCCA to tie the MINI clubs together.

To add to the ones mentioned above.

When driving you wont be able to stop smiling.......

Your 350 mile a week commute will seem to short, and you will probably want to drive another 350 on the weekends.

Once you start moding (and you will) you can't stop.

This NAM group is a bunch of weirdo's and freaks and you probably don't want to be associated with us

Good call on the LSD. You might want to consider the anthracite headliner ($200) instead of the standard pale colour. See if you can check it out at the dealer. We wouldn't have known to order that, but once we saw one it was a no-brainer.

chrono

Is the chrono pkg worth it?
I personally like analog gauges over idiot gauges, but is it worth the $250...pros/ cons...
One person told me that if you are 5'10"/ 5'11" or over its hard to see because it lines up with the steering wheel.

ohhh, anthracite headliner..."like what the M3 had over the standard 3 series".

ALSO,

Did anyone get a chance to look thru the latest Consumer Reports?
I'm not 100% sure but I think this is the first time the Cooper was rated a "Consumer Best Buy"...At least the '05 is...
It also listed what the dealer is paying for the car and each option...

Lots of people do NOT like the chrono package because if messes up one of the classic design features of the large center speedometer.

I prefer the optional set of MINI OEM gauges ($250 plus installation) that seat directly beneath the center console's toggle switch bank. That way you get a Voltmeter and Oil Pressure gauges without sacrificing the center speedometer.

My only regret in my order is not getting the headliner. At the time I was thinking to myself...ANOTHER $200

Now I'm thinking...it was only another $200

I would think the anthracite headliner will make the cabin too dark on cars with no sunroof.

Anyone else here a BMW CCA member?
Yup, I'm a member of the Tarheel and Sandlapper Chapters of BMW CCA. Most of the members of these chapters are very receptive to MINIs. I'm also going to join the MINI Motoring Club of the Carolinas (M2C2). Whether there will be a MINI CCA anytime soon is anybody's guess. If so, it will come from the enthusiasts, not from MINI. BMW wasn't really especially supportive of BMW CCA for quite a while.

Right on on both counts. These are value-adds that will increase your enjoyment of your new MINI.

Nearly purchased the chrono pkg myself, mainly because I want an oil pressure gauge. Decided to go for an aftermarket gauge pod with boost and oil pressure. This has the effect of placing these gauges more closely in the driver's line of sight and allows the center-mount speedo to be retained. Additionally, when the car is built with the chrono package, the speedo and tach share the steering column mount location, which does result in them being significantly obscured for me (6'0").

Your dad might make a crack comment like, "Why didn't you get a REAL car."

Some people just don't get it. But you do!

I like the chrono package for a couple of reasons.

The first and most obvious is that I actively wanted the extra gauges. The most important of these, contrary to what most people think, is oil temperature. I say that because this is the gauge that you can use every single time you drive the car to determine when it's heated up enough to put the boot in. You don't want to flog the car when the engine isn't heated up.

Oil pressure is useful as a long term gauge of engine health, but the chances are zero of your happening to look at it in time to do something useful if oil pressure goes down the crapper. That's why racecars have giant oil pressure warning lights that operate at a high threshhold, 20 to 30 psi. (Standard oil pressure warning lights are usually set at about 8 psi - too late!)

A boost gauge would be nice, but I ask myself what I'd do differently if I had one. I already know from the tach (or my butt dyno) when the engine starts to give power.

The other reason is that I don't happen to like the speedo in the (historically authentic) central location, so the gauges took car of that for me. Of course others may feel strongly the other way!

Neil

so then the list is as follows

05 MCS
pure silver
cold weather pkg.
rear fog- just so the toggle bank is filled...(true right?)
HID/ Xenon
Anthracite interior surface and headliner
cruise/ multi-funtion wheel
side skirts from aero pkg.

Just waiting for the dealer to get back to me w/ a final cost with the additional labor.
-------------------------
A good friend of mine in the BMW CCA and personally is trying to get me to buy another BMW. "How can you go to a CCA meeting or rally with that"?
Its tough talking to someone who owns the last year MCoupe that BMW made which has 1200 miles on the OD and sits in the garage on a carpet with BMW flags on the walls. AND, he is the service mgr at one of the local BMW shops - the only one that does not sell Mini...
Well- find me a BMW that will match the "bang per buck" I can get with a Mini...No anwser yet.

In actuality, I've known a few folks over at Turner Motor Sports in Mass. One guy there says that he has a heavily moded '02 M3 at his disposal. He prefers the Mini! As he said, the only car thats comfortable doing 120 at the track or 25 thru town.

Someone jump in here if I am wrong, but I think it will also take DSC and front fogs to do that.
