HELP! Anybody tried fitting a bike inside your MINI?

I am curious to know if a bike will fit in the back of my MINI; front wheel off, back seats folded down. I'm looking to get out this summer on my bike with friends, but don't know if I'll do it enough to warrant the purchase and installation of a rack. For now, I am hopeful I will be able to make do! Any input is much appreciated.

No problem. I have a friend who is an avid cyclist, and she did it regularly before she got her Yakima top rack. (which she loves)

It will, but be wary of unprotected forks. A friend tosses her bike in all the time and she's got a myriad of 'dings' on the interior from entry and exit. So be careful (if you're **** like me!)

Yup, it works, but barely! Passenger seat forward and released as if to let someone climb into the back seat. I have a Cannondale road bike with 21" frame and 27" wheels - I only specify because I honestly only have an inch or two to spare, at least the way I had the bike oriented, with front wheel off. If you're over 6' and have the correct size bike, you might have to get creative.

And I second Eric's comment about paying attention to the fork - I wrap a fleece around it to keep it from gouging up my interior.

...although perhaps this will no longer be necessary, since my friend's snowshoes gouged it up pretty good on a trip this past winter.

Upside down.

Last summer I would take both wheels off my mountain bike and put it in the car upside down, forks at the rear of the car. The rear derailer protruded just between the seats but not in the way. Kind of a pain to do all of that dismantling. I installed the sport link system this winter, no more taking my bike apart.

I tried it once just to see if it would fit, and it does, but not worth worrying about banging up your interior. I bought a roof rack (total of $110 for the crossbars and two bike attachment for brand new stuff on ebay) for my beater and nothing beats the convenience of just throwing it on the roof without having to cram it inside the car or even set up a trunk (or hatch) rack for that matter.

Does anyone know if a 20 inch BMX Bike will fit into a classic mini?
I do not think it will and most likely will not do it even if it does fit because i have a 3 bike rack but it is a pain to get on and take off each time expecily when you are used to throwing it in to a full size buick of blazer

I know an adult bike should fit, but dismantling the bike will be necessary. Also, after a ride i would be too worried about dirt and grease messing up the interior.

the actual roof rack is made by Sportrack, the model is Mondial i believe. The bike attachment is made by Reese and holds 2 bikes. These were both discontinued closeout items, so they might be harder to find now. You can still find good deals on Thule/Yakima stuff on Ebay if you catch it at the right time.
