So there we were Friday afternoon. Elizabeth and I decided to go see one of the seasons flicks (2 Weeks Notice with Bullock & Grant, but that's not relevant).

We were in the car, preparing to leave when I felt this bump. A big, ugly SUV had backed into the Mini, leaving big, ugly dents in the boot, a scratch on the bumper and a pranged license plate.

If you look closely, you will see a couple of "pimples" just below the Tate Mini logo -- the latch screws on the inside almost poked thru the sheet metal. Like many others, I have had trouble with the boot latch. I expected the damage would have screwed the latch up some more, but everything works properly.

The only thing that really broke (other than my temper ) was Tate's cheap plastic license plate frame.

OUCH!!! So, did the big, bad SUV owner say he/she was sorry? Hope this can be repaired soon and will look as good as new, at someone else's expense!

It looks like it hit pretty high...that sucks....parking lots during the holiday season are scary places...good luck with the fix.

BTW, I'm in Frederick...ever come out that way? I feel like I'm all alone out here...I haven't seen another MINI in almost two months.

Typical SUV drivers. Most of them shouldn't even own one cause they don't know how to manuver it or check the wide range of blind spots. What kind of driver was it? They should have an SUV license that's needed before taking one on the road.
But think of it this way. At least you were in the car. If you were delayed a few minutes in the way of geting to your car, who knows, that driver could have took off. In this case you caught 'em red handed, or should I say red bumpered.
I say giver 'er Hell man. The Christmas Season spirit can be put aside momentarily, for a bit of raging towards ******* SUV owners.
Hope your MINI future is a little more promising.
Cheers,

He got a minor bend in the plastic covering his rear bumper. Yes, the bumper was high!

Occasionally -- I love the drive west from Frederick towards Harper's Ferry and then north to Antietam/Sharpsburg. Perfect MiniMotoring.

Just got back from Tate Mini (Annapolis). Their estimate for repairs was $992, of which $238 was for a new rear hatch. Now to figure out who is going to pay for it!

Since the SUV backed into you his insurance better pay for it!!

Not all SUV drivers are bad (I drive one as my other car) but there are a lot of kids that are getting Mom/Dad's old SUV to drive when they get their license. I saw a 16 year old girl in an Excursion pull out in front of traffic yesterday without even looking. Talk about an accident waiting to happen!

Fighting w/insurance companies is tough business... remember tho... if you do not get a rental from them... you can always tack on a "LOSS OF USE" charge... I believe they all have to honor that.... At least they did out here in Cali... We lost a Nissan due to a sleeping drunk driver... Our 240 was parked on the curb and then, in the dead of night .... WHAMMMMO! SPLINTER SHATTER ..... Silence...

Oh man did he pay! I assesed the damages immediatly to him... I told him he totalled our car... so anyways.... called insurance, then his... took 2 months for them to call it totalled... so we bitched and complained, called our attorney, he told us to mention the dept of insurance, then the loss of use.

$25 times 60 days Plus the amount of the totalled car...ended up being a down payment for a Mini...

So in tragedy there is happiness, but it seems like a dark road!

Good Luck
