Americans will not have heard that a car carrying ship went down in the English Channel after a collision about a week ago. On board were 3,000 BMW's Saab's and Volvo's some on the way to the UK others on the way to the US. If they were going to parrtially offload in Southhampton they may have been going to pick up Mini's. Pure speculation but maybe...

Welcome RH!!

Yeah unfortunately we know this already. Apparently there are some members of our MINI community whose MINIs were actually already on the boat....

You underestimate the fiendish intensity of Yanks tracking their Minis, Mr. Hutchings. The incident was discussed here along with a host of full-color disaster scene photos!

Yeah, but no one ever did explore my query on whether or not there was any salvage value. Don't know why I'm so fascinated by this...

Well maybe this is news to you?

Have you heard that after the incident the ship was guarded by 2 navy ships 1 from Belgium and 1 from the UK,
And 2 tow boats from Holland.
They were guarding this ship because that area has heavy ship traffic,
but even with this top protection a German ship ran over the almost sunken Tricolor!!!!!!!!
How's that Possible????
all 4 guarding boats have new edge radar systems and the German must also have some kind of radar and still he
managed to run onto the Tricolor

I can answer your question Jsun

The Dutch guys who must check that can't go into the water (yet)
because of the heavy weather.
But i've heard that what ever was on that ship is totally lost!

Hope this helps you a little??

Yep, that helps. But ok, now I have another (boring) question...how come it's Dutch guys (and presumably gals too) who must do the diving? I thought this thing sank between England and France? Time for me to break out the atlas I suppose. On this gray, very rainy, afternoon right before Christmas when no one in their right mind is really working anyway...

Sorry, I guess this is getting way off topic. And of course I'm sensitive to that after all of the on topic off topic concerns as of late.

I forgot to answer your question,

I think the dikes (dijken in Dutch) are fine i don't live near them so i don't know.
a nope no rain (regen in Dutch) only very very cold last week we were ice-skating (schaatsen in Dutch)on the ponds.

Wile i'm at it i'm teaching you guys some Dutch if you don't like it let me know.

I don't know how much Dutch I'll retain, but I think it is cool for you to take the time to sprinkle the Dutch equivalents throughout your posts!!!

Nope a total of 1500 mini's sold from the start of Mini.

This is for Jsun:
The reason they send Dutch divers is because there's a big company in Holland called Smit-Tak.
and they do almost every big salvage jobs around the world.
they also did that Russian sub the Koersk you know.
So i think they are the best around for this job i can't think of any other reason

Yeah ok, I'll bite...how do you say "My hovercraft is full of eels" (old Monty Python bit). I have a friend who's collected that phrase in a whole bunch of languages.

Hey, any language that would string together consecutive vowels is OK by me. Let's Learn Dutch!

Sure does! Thanks Miniholland. Seems like it may come in particularly handy if I go to the same sea captains' school attended by that German skipper
