"So the neon is ugly and the mini is slow... what's your point?

This IS a thread talking about quarter mile times... which is a little ironic considering the car in question. IMO, if you're a drag-racer you bought the wrong car. The neon would be a big step in the right direction... although I've never understood the desire to drag race anything FWD."

well, that was the whole idea of bringing up this topic... since this is the Mini's slow side (acceleration). We all know is corners really well, so what is the point of talking about that???

that's for a stock neon srt4. That's what like a little over a half a second quicker than a stock 168-170 hp 05 mcs? With a 1.6L engine? Put a 19%pully and a cold air intake on your mini and then see who's boss. Sure you can add a stage 3 kit to the neon that will put it at 315hp for $3600 for a car that $3000 more than a base mini s. ok well $2500. and you could spend $5000 for a stage 3 upgrade for a mini S(not jcw) which will give it 245-250 hp(and includes the cylinder head and new exaust system as well as a bunch of other goodies. Of course there's always the stage 4 which is around 265+ hp for $7000 Yikes!! a lot of cash indeed for that one. And you have one hell of a Mini pocket rocket. A lot more to say for the "neon". It's a "every other person down my road has one" rocket. They have like 3 where I live and they think there soooo bad. A guy I know who has a tinting busness owns a 05 Viper and pulled into the windy's parking lot one night he said when they were all there, and there jaws dropped to the ground. That would be so funny to watch. Lol

except that only 7hp between the MCS's apparently gets you over a second! ...seems like another 33 should out you under 5 secs by that standard!

No 7hp and taller gearing is the diff between '02-'04 MCS and '05s. The gearing alone was probably worth 85% of the time drop.
