Calling all 6'4" & up Owners w/Sunroofs

I am trying to find a demo Mini w/a sunroof that I can take for a test drive in order to determine if my head will hit the ceiling every time the car hits a bump. My Mini will have the JCW suspension option so I will be feeling more bumps than not. My head is very close to the ceiling and I can feel my hair combing the top. On models w/o the sunroof (including convertables ) I have plenty of room (at least three inches). I like to sit close to the wheel with the seat all the way down.

Are there any other tall Mini owners who are concerned about the sunroof or is it just me?

To me, the Mini is a tall guys best friend in the small car world.

I'm 6'5" and I have 2.5" of head clearance w/o the sunroof. I never got the chance to try a sun roof equiped Mini, but my guess was it would be too close for comfort. My head has enough lumps and bumps from hitting this and that

Also, if you plan to auto-x consider bringing along a helmet. You may get a funny look from the salesperson....ignore that and make sure you have adequate space.

I am 6'-5" and have test driven a MCS with sunroof about 4 times and felt that there was plenty of head room. I actually am picking up my new MCS w/sunroof tomorrow. If you were up for a roadtrip up to Oregon, I would let you drive mine, but I am sure you can find another MINI owner closer to you.

The seats on a MCS tilt back - not sure about a MC. Mine is rotated back a bit and there is plenty of head room. I'm ~6'4". The seats are very adjustable. The whole seat assembly is forward of the back stops ~3 to 4 inches, too.

And I have a sun roof.

I'm only 6'4" and I feel completely compfortable in the Mini in terms of leg/head room. I've got a shaved head so my hair doesn't come close to the sun roof. I even have to scoot the seat up a notch or two to comfortably reach the steering wheel. Of course, the seat is adjusted to the lowest point possible. Until your post I've never thought of needing any headroom. So, I'd highly recommend any cooper w/ sunroof. Good luck bro!

A 6'8" friend of mine (and yes, he DID play college basketball) rode in my '05 MCS and found it to be very comfy. With the seat positioned all the way aft and tilted to his liking, no problem!

But, there's no way he could fit in the back seat, forget about it!

You shouldn't have a problem. I'm 6'4" and although I don't have a sunroof, I have miles of headroom.

For anyone who has not yet played with the seats completely: In addition to moving forward, backward and seatback angle, in the MINI you can adjust the seat up and down... there must be at least five inches to play with.

Some test drive the MINI not realizing that you can actually change the angle at which you view the dashboard instruments through this seat function!

I am (only) six feet even... I like my seat set all the way down, but I could raise it a lot before I'd hit the roof.

You just have to try it. People are all built differently. Some have long legs and shorter torso, others have long torso and short legs. I'm 6'4" and tried the sunroof, and found it to close. I had to tilt the seat to back to fit, and found it to be an awkward driving position.

There would be no way with a helmet on for me.

You just have to see for yourself:smile:

I'm also 6'4". I'm of a fairly average proportion (neither long nor short torso-ed). I fit beautifully into the MINI with several inches of headroom to spare. More headroom than most big American sedans I've rented... more headroom than my wife's last SUV

Thanks for all the great feedback! Boy, you guys are quick to reply. All I did was step away from my computer for a couple of hours to take a test drive!

So here is the thing: I test drove a MC w/sunroof and floored it up and down the hills of San Francisco. I purposely tried to hit every bump and pothole I could find. At first my head was hitting the rim of the sunroof so I tilted my seat down one notch and that did it. Perfect Fit. I am sold. Sunroof it is! Now I just have to get use to not being able to see much of a horizon out of the front window...

That was my first time in a MC (I have until now only test driven MCS's). I was surprised how much power that engine has.

I am 6'6" and I got my MCS without a sunroof for the reason of my head right at the ceiling if it had a sunroof. From what your saying I would lose the sunroof.

Big Boy

6'3"+ 300lbs+/- (depending on beer intake)

Love this car!! I just purchased a second one as it is the most fun car that I have ever driven...and I'm comfortable in every way, can get in without hitting my head, can get out without doing the limbo.

I've got a SPAX coilover lowered suspension so hitting bumps is no problem here in Ohio where we have more potholes per mile than just about anyplace in the country

Although I'm only around 6' tall, I am long of torso. I've been using a lightinsight fresnel lens since last summer. In a word, "Fantastic". no more crooked neck syndrome at the traffic light. If you need one, get one, for the money its one of the best mods going.

I'm about 5'11" but find that with a helmet on, it tends to hit that driver's side visor that's new on the 05s, even when I have the seat all the way down. (My car has a sunroof, too.)

Without a helmet, there's no problem. But with a helmet, I've got to flip the little visor down. So I'm wondering if tall people have problems with that visor?

We should also mention that an adjustable steering wheel is standard equipment. Up and down only - no in-and-out adjustment. (Just in case people taking test drives don't realize this.)

I'm 6'5" and I have trouble with headroom. When I go to the track I have to lean my seat way back to avoid my helmet from hitting the sunroof. I've been trying to find an option to get my seat lower, or find a seat that's thinner. Anyone know if the evo recaro's or racing recaros sit any lower?

I have a 2004 MCS with a sunroof. I'm 6'5" and don't have any head room issues. I have the seat lowered all of the way to the floor and have plenty of room. I would not be able to use a crash helmet for autocross as it would be to tight.

Love the room in the Mini!
