Wow. He finally made it. Carlos (pronounced " carloth&quot just got off the boat from Hawaii ( I bought at MINI of Hawaii to save $4k on mark-up in So Cal).

West Coast port crisis and all. 7 weeks to get him to Honolulu from the BMW Dist. Cntr in CA and 1 week to get him back.

Very very cool.

He's:

an MCS, Chile Red w/ Black Roof and bonnet stripes, leather, magnesium door panels, Nav, and packages 1, 2 and 3... and there already a whole bunch of stuff: skid plate, etc waiting in the garage. Drive or mod, drive or mod???

Thanks for making the wait so enjoyable. I recommend anyone in Southern Ca to go to MINI of Hawaii (ask for Aka)...they made it seamless.

Off to motor on a gorgeous California winter day.

Congratulations on the double hop bypassing the greedy SoCal dealers, maybe you should spam every dealer and tell them the reason they now must sell at MSRP, or some other tact. Good Job, wish I thought of that earlier!

DVL MINI. Congratulations, I just love to see the number of people buying from out of State is growing, all because of excessive California pricing. I hope that California Dealership is taking notice. Another out of State buyer communicated with me just recently to share his experience. Enjoy your new MINI, happy motoring.

DVL MINI, I Live in hawaii and visited Honolulu Mini a couple of weeks ago (actually its become a weekly event) . Your car was on display in the show room. I must say it is the sharpest combination I've seen to date. almost made me want to change the color combination on my order. They Said it was headed to California and wouldnt let anyone touch it. Great choice Hope it makes up for the wait you must have had.

Thanks for the compliments and good wishes and for the confirmation that MINI of Hawaii took good care of my baby. But what's up with the scratches on the roof???

From the Shipper's Vehicle condition report they were there when they got the car in Hawaii...here goes...my first MINI battle.

Nothing major...just a little irritant. Car drives great --an '02 MCS with (so far) no signs of the usual problems. I tried to get the dealer to address any KNOWN issues before they shipped it. Looks good so far.

LMINI...time for you to model that shirt for us...PM me?

Aloha! I too have seen your Carlos in the showroom on my weekly visit to MINI of Hawaii. What a cool color combo! Judy (my saleslady), said Carlos was strictly "hands-off" cuz it was headin' to Cali...bummer. I was told someone from Seattle bought 5 MINIs from Hawaii. To all you future SoCal MINI owners, come get your MINIs at Hawaii, quite a few pre specd on the lot and all at msrp. Mine,err...our MINIhune supposed to be here in March-can't wait. Cograts,DVLMINI, motor on....

I agree about talking to Aka. He really is a great person to deal with (as is the whole sales/service crew at MINI of Hawaii!). They really go out of their way for MINI owners. Even though they will probably never sell me a car again, it is only because I won't be in Hawaii to buy my next MINI!

Aka has been very helpful. When I bought my S gas cap from RSpeed, I brought the body piece down to them to have it painted. Aka told me that they send their body work out, but he said he would take care of it. A week later, he called me to let me know it was ready for pickup. When I paid for it, I realized that all I was paying was what the body shop charged, with no additional service or delivery fees tacked on.

He went to all that effort for someone who had already bought a car from him! That IMHO is way above and beyond what I would expect from a car dealer. That's the kind of service you get every time at MINI of Hawaii. What a great crew to be handling such a great car! (No, I do not work for the promotions department of MINI of Hawaii! )

I know, I've got it! Just have your friend lean out the window and install the skid plate while you're driving (uh errr, motoring in it)

Congrats DVLMINI on spelling mahalo and haole correctly!! I'm surprised you didn't figure out MINIhune. Hawaiian 101 - the Menehune are a legendary race of small people who worked at night building fish ponds, roads, etc. If the work was not finished in one night, it remained unfinished. //To gather together to work and complete a task as a band of Menehune. Hence MINIhune. Odd? Sure, but creates conversation. Motor on!!!!

What do they charge you to ship your MINI to SoCal?
Also how's the wait list for an "S"?

DVLMini - good to hear you enjoyed our beautiful state. What movie did you work on? Was it Blue Crush? We were out on the North Shore one day when a crew was there filming. Hopefully you'll get a chance to be out our way again. Aloha and motor on!

Judy our Motor Advisor said 4-5 months for the Cooper and 6+ months for an S. But they occasionally have cars on the lot that aren't preordered. One thing, you do have to have a Hawaii address to purchase, but then can ship it to the Mainland. Or you could always just move here!!!
