Mini Luggage

Anyone have the Mini Luggage. My wife and I are in need of some new luggage and plan on using the Mini for visiting the grandchildren but the luggage seems to be expensive for a 3 piece set. If it is good quality pieces and it fits in the boot nice it might be worth it, or is it expensive because it says Mini on it? Opinions appreciated.
Thanks,
Oley

You may want to check out Ebay. I've seen them on there from time to time for much less.

I have it.

It is quality stuff, fits pretty well in the boot. The jack and tool kit get in the way a bit.

Samsonite or Mandarina Duck

When I checked the MINI configurator 3 weeks ago, I was a bit disappointed to see that the MINI came only with Samsonite luggage. Samsonite makes excellent, functional and durable luggage, but it tends to be conservative in style. I think it works great for the MINI's luggage situation--almost invisible back there. But what about the extroverts?

Within the past month, I read (Motoringfile or Autocar?) that MINI has teamed with Mandarina Duck for a new line of luggage. Mandarina Duck is known for high style casual soft luggage and bags. Colors have always been chic. I imagined MINI offering magenta and chartreuse or silver and ecru luggage as an alternative to the bullet-proof Samsonite.

It hasn't happened yet. Anyone know when that will happen?

As MINIGIL posted above the best deal is probably on eBay. I got a huge new Tumi bag for a lot less than I had ever seen it on sale in stores. So MINI luggage will probably make an appearance every once in awhile there. Good luck.

We got our dealer to throw in a set of Mini luggage with ours. Should have both at the end of this month.

I have had Mini luggage for two and a half years.....excellent durability ......looks great......fits nicely into the boot......each of the three pieces can be used as flight carry-ons.......easily identifiable on an airport luggage carousel......very glad I have it.

On the other hand, with four people in the car I doubt that it's enough luggage. With two you can put the seats down and use whatever luggage you have.

Old style MINI luggage in use

I got the Mini luggage at a good price on e-bay. It certainly fits the "trunk" space well and is well made. However it does have some drawbacks. The wheeled suitcase is fairly heavy empty, eight to ten pounds, and the wheels only work well on very smooth surfaces (as there is little clearance from the bottom of the piece).

The trapezoidal piece is a strange size (as well as shape) so that it is not large enough to take long-sleeved shirts or pants. It is good for underwear, socks, t-shirts, etc. but takes a lot of those to fill it. While it has backpack shoulder straps it is awkward to wear as a backpack. The bottom compartment is great for shoes.

The other "duffle" works well.
