Hi all,
I've just received new CV axles for my R53 and was glad that I got the right side axle that has the bearing bracket already installed. I've watched Mod Mini's YouTube videos (super helpful!) and was worried I'd have to move the bracket.
I got everything into place and the bolt holes for the bracket are just slightly off toward the passenger side. It's as though the axle end needs to seat farther into the transmission or the bracket needs moved ~1 mm to the left. Very frustrating. I've double checked everything from the axle manufacturer and it shows that I have the correct model for my exact spec vehicle (2006 R53 S, Manual transmission).
Any and all tips or advice are welcome! I'm considering getting an axle from a different manufacturer and trying it... Pax side axle entering transmission. It "clunks" like it's fully seated, but does it look OK? Bracket bolt holes not quite lining up.
Is the carrier bearing fully seated on the axle? Had nearly the exact same issue with an axle from NAPA, the carrier bearing wasn't fully seated on the shoulder before the inner CV joint. That bracket doesn't look like its fully seated either.
Did your replacement axle come with the bearing housing already installed over the bearing, or did you remove the housing from the original axle and install it on the new one?
If you have a spare axle nut thread it on a few threads then tap it with a hammer. Or get under with a pry by and pry against the carrier bracket, done both with stubborn cv's. The r53 passenger side can be a bugger!
I had this issue and the only way I could fix it was to remove the axle and move the carrier bearing outward on the shaft to allow the splines to go further into the transmission. I had leaking trans fluid before I did this and now it's fixed. No other way to do it.

this is the right answer, the carrier bearing needs to move
Just my .02 here. After fighting with mine I discovered than one cannot simply push these in and call it good. You need to give them a good whack to seat them. They may "feel" like they are seated but trust me they need some persuasion.
