R50/53 Aftermarket MAP/TMAP Sensor Quality
Aftermarket MAP/TMAP Sensor Quality
If you were to read a number of threads having to do with replacing MAP and TMAP sensors, you would come away with the impression that all aftermarket sensors are "crap" and that OEM MINI parts are the only ones that work. I have no experience with the aftermarket items but can't believe that internationally known brands like NTK, FEBI Bilstein and Walker make inferior products. OTOH, if you've purchased no-name brands manufactured with poor or no quality control for less than the price of a burger and fries, I can understand the propensity for failure. I'd like to hear from folks who've installed brand name aftermarket MAP/TMAP sensors that actually work.
Looking back at my records: In 2022 it looks like I tried the FAE brand MAP and TMAP sensors (URO?) for $40/ea.
It didn't solve my CEL and related code from returning. I sent one back and after reading a bit; I decided on spending 3x $$ on replacing both with OEM.
I'm not sure which sensor was causing the issue but the OEMs' worked for my situation.

I’m old. Gonna be 60 on my next birthday. I’ve been into cars all my life. About 10 years ago, I decided that if the difference in the part cost is less than a flatbed ride home, I get the OE part. That has been working for me. I have bought used tested OE parts first. There is less good aftermarket now than 10 years ago. Get the OE.
If you look at my build thread (in signature below) you'll see a period where I had a bad MAP sensor - bought a new one (probably not OEM) and installed it. No joy. I ended up taking it to a shop for them to buy an OEM sensor...
