Loud Cracking Noise

I am looking for ideas trying to narrow down a really obnoxious cracking noise.
My wife has an '06 R50. When she closes the door, a very loud snap/crack noise
appears to come from the top of the car, sunroof area? You would swear something just broke.
It only manifests when closing the drivers side door. She closes the door harder than I do (don't go there
so I don't have the problem consistently
The shop that services the vehicle said it was the Door Brake Stop??
I'm not completely confident of their work, but that is a whole other thread.
I looking to see if anyone else had ever had this/heard of this issue?
Thanks

It could be. Try putting white lithium grease on it. I’ve never had it on ours, but I had a Yukon that had door brakes that made awful noises

I agree - most likely = the door check/brake stop.
From my own experience...
I remember hearing a similar unsettling crack/crunch when closing the driver side door (gets the most use/wear & tear).
I turned out to be that the plastic "pucks" that ride on to the incremental indentations on the door brake shaft had worn down until they broke and the 2wo metal "cloverleafs" also fell out.
As mentioned above; I had also sprayed Lithium grease on to the pucks and door brake shaft which made it quiet again...That is until; the door would no longer stay open.

Replaced with new. Its an inexpensive and quick and easy fix.
In my case that was 8 years ago (2017). The new replacement (URO) has almost lasted as long as the factory one original to the car (2004) and still holding up well.

Thank you very much.
So maybe they were correct.
I knew this group would have the answers, which is why I always search here first.
They were replaced once before, not sure they were OEM, or the quality.
Might have to look into better parts.
I'll try the cheap fix/spray route first. My biggest concern is that the dash had to be removed
last summer for an A/C issue, and I am hoping that is not my issue.

Have you tried it?

Edit: Thanks for the update.

I did, and no it did not. I’m not home right now, when we return I will try and a different product. I am also going to replace the door stop and see if that solves the issue. If not then we go down the expensive path😩

So a further follow up if anyone is still following this. I tried the Lithium Grease to no avail.
Also just replaced the Door Brake, which didn't do anything either. Probably has to do with
the dash being removed with the air conditioning repair last year.

Could it be the top of the window glass hitting the drip rail over the door? Maybe the window isn't dropping enough when the door is opened, and it is catching at the top when slammed closed.

For that matter, does the sound change in character at all if the window is up or down?

Lastly, you probably know the 'hose to the ear' method of locating a sound. Would be interesting to know if you can isolate the location while sitting inside the cabin.

Thanks again,
The glass is not hitting the drip rail. A good idea that quite frankly I didn't think about.
The frustrating thing is there is no consistency when the sound will appear.
I'm really afraid that the simple fix has not worked, now digging deep into probably
the dash might be needed.
Although, as I'm typing this I should have checked the window when I had the door apart.
Why do I think of these things after the fact?

I have a loud noise/crack about a minute after driving off. Everytime just one loud crack seems to come from the roof area!
