What are these wires next to right hood latch?

They look pretty ratty. I'm just curious, what are these wires/electrical connection for? Should they be cleaned?

Yeah - Yours looks pretty grody.
I had some pretty confusing intermittent voltage drain issues while driving a while back.
In my case; the 10mm securing nut had gone missing after having my clutch replaced at a BMW/MINI indie garage.
With a loose, dirty or missing nut - the ballast cannot ground properly. It'll cause your instruments, alternator to act funky not to mention retard your car's performance.
It's best to take a few minutes to clean and make sure it makes good metal to metal contact with the frame.
