Left (driver) side inner CV axle in far enough? (Photo)

Hello,
I just installed the left CV axle into the transmission with the spring clip in the splined end. I didn't feel or hear it snap into place. There is a little over 1/4" between the inner CV cup and the transmission.
I can try and pop it out with a pry bar and investigate but thought someone may know offhand

if I'm most likely "home" with the insertion. This is the original axle, just a new transmission output seal.

See here if it has the dust cover also. It will have a small gap when all the way in.

ECS,
The photo you sent is on the right side (passenger). I do have a dust cap on that side (passenger) and the axle seems to be placed correctly as the intermediate shaft bearing mount dictates how far the axle is inserted into the transmission.
My question pertains to the left side (driver side). Maybe you have a photo of an axle from this side?
Thanks for your input!
