CV axle not seated in transmission properly

Hello,

New to the forum and Mini Coopers. My son traded his ranger for a 2002 Cooper S. It has multiple mods and runs and drives ok. Has the 6 speed manual transmission and the right side (passenger) side CV axle is not in the transmission all the way. I have not seen this before and did not see any glaring issues that would cause this. It does not seem loose when I try to move it. Has anybody seen this before or know where to look for issues? Could it be the motor mounts? How could we best check them? Left (driver) side looks ok. It is lowered some on coil springs.

Axle length can vary (but only slightly) by year/model. It's possible someone replaced the axle with an improper part.

If its the passenger side (right hand side) then the axel is help in place with a bearing block. It shouldn't be moving or pulling out. As mentioned above, possible a previous owner replaced it with an improper part? Looks like its missing the seal dust guard / oil flinger, too.
