R50/53 Wheel bearing hubs
Wheel bearing hubs
Why are the OEM wheel bearing hubs so much more than aftermarket? Are they better?
I replaced all four of mine a couple of years ago with Detroit hubs, I have maybe 10k miles on them and the front drivers side has gone bad. I know they have a 10yr warranty, but I’m thinking about spending the extra money on genuine mini parts.
$95 vs. $509 seems like a no brainer, but I don’t want to replace them every couple of years

I personally also have had poor results with Detroit axle suspension components lasting ONLY 1yr.. matter fact , i believe their hubs were what caused me to stop buying their products also. On mine , the tone rings corroded excessively fast and caused the sensors to not read correctly. I also had their balljoints fail within 1000miles.. again , I went with a cheaper brand trq for my balljoints and control arms ect and i have had no issues..

I run Detroit Axle hubs on mine. Had them on for three+ years with no problems. Admittedly, I only put around 5,000 miles per year on my MC40 but for the low DA price I would replace them yearly if necessary.

Just make sure you watch the year split at 7/2006, thats when they changed the lug bolts. I have ran NTN and SKF in the past (OEM), they last on avrg 80~100K. I have done the wheel bearing an 3 MINIs all the way around 2 times over the years. You also have to watch on install with the ABS sensor.
