I feel quite relieved that something finally broke. The rear latch wouldn't catch the boot this morning and keep it shut. I thought maybe the 03's were corrected on this problem, but looks like its not. I've seen the fix-it's on this website, so at least I know how to correct it. It's funny, this is a great site, but all the reports of problems have me worried all the time now. I know...we have to expect these things with a new production car...but ignorance is still bliss.

Just out of curiosity, do you have the key programmed to pop the boot when you hold it down?

No, it will unlock the second time I hit the button, but not open like the windows. Didn't know you could do that.

Those options are mutually exclusive.

-EITHER-

you get the windows/sunroof to open when you hold down the unlock button

-OR-

You get the rear hatch to release.

PS. Hope that is the worst problem you EVER have with your MINI!!!
