Really a solicitation for creative electrical connection solution.
it was 9 degrees this morning so I wanted to see if the heated seats were working. (Bought the car in July so it has not been important) Pressed the buttons and all they did was flash at me two times and then nothing. Button on the driver’s side barely moved. Decided to pop the panel and inspect.
Got the connectors for the seat heaters off w no problems. The tan connector for the mirror directional **** came out ok. But then the black connector for the mirror selector switch snapped. See pic.
so, now one half of the black connector is stuck in the panel and the wires are loose. I’m pretty sure I can get the wires back in the right order (have wiring diagram). So I’m thinking of using JB weld for plastic and gluing the “top half” of the connector in place, then plugging the wires into the back.
Downside is I won’t ever be able to unplug the connector. Upside is functional mirrors w $0 expense.
any other suggestions?
BTW, reason buttons were sticking was due to grime. PO must have spilled something that was sticky. Cleaned everything w rubbing alcohol so now buttons move easily. Don’t know if electronics function yet.
I think you are right - albeit JB weld is a pretty good product - it will never really "hold". You are right in your assessment; that you'll never be able to pull that plug in the future without it breaking again.
Then again, you could always just JB it and hope to never have to access it again.
However, I imagine that whole control unit, although a bit pricey - new, would be the best solution to just replace it. Probably $5 -$10 at a salvage yard. If that's not convenient in your local, you can try allmag.com and pay a little more. ' still cheaper than oem - new.
