Farmer's Ins. in Calif... what the hay?
I just got my insurance renewal for my 2003 MCS. Its one of multiple cars that I insure with Farmer's. Previously, the premium was $361.60 every 6 mo. (not bad). The renewal premium is now $878.40!!!! Its increased by 243% *and* they've raised my comprehensive deductible from $120 to $150. I've had no accidents and no tickets. In fact, the only thing that has changed in the past year, is that the car is now 1 yr. older.
Policies on my other cars showed significant increases after the 1st of the year, but nothing like this. The other increases weren't enought to move me to shop around, since I've been with Farmer's for over 20 yr.s, but that's just changed. I'm shopping around now.

Insurance premiums?!
I feel your pain! I just got my policy renewal from Mercury Casualty (CA) and the six month premium was $1050!!! Same thing as brgfan, not only did my premium jump but my deductibles were raised as well.
I started looking around at other carriers. Brgfan, if you find a company that has reasonable programs, let us know.

insurance rate increase
The change in comp. deductible is a clue! FARMERS has discount packages which you may or may not qualify for. The $120 decuctible indicates a higher discount package than the $150 deductible. In Oregon, anyway, it would take a very unusual circumstance for you to be downgraded from the higher discount package to the lower. You should check with your agent, since this is probably due to an error.
I was pretty hot when I got that renewal with the jacked-up rate. However, I've been able to reslove it this morning.
When my oldest son moved out last year, he let his old Farmer's policy lapse and replaced it with other insurance. Farmers *assumed* that he was still living here, and so placed him as a driver on the Cooper. Nice assumption for them, but totally inaccurate, and they never called or checked with me. When I called to complain, they pulled him off all of my policies, and the Cooper rate dropped back to where it had been.
I'm still a little steamed that they just made that assumption, but the restored rate is a pretty good one. Of course at age 50+ with no tickets or accidents in decades, I get pretty good quotes from almost everyone. (Knock on wood.)
