…Yes our MINI was very dirty. I think anyone else from Chicago can sympathize these days. We actually washed it immediately after getting the tree inside.


FYI…we tied the tree to the door latch and ran it thru the window and then rear seat latches (also run through the window). It was really very secure.

 

Hmm, coincidence, I was just thinking about what a Mini would look like hauling home a tree today... guess I know now! :smile: btw, your wife could be the twin of my ex...

If memory serves me correctly(and it usually doesn't), didn't Mr.Bean do the same with his classic green Mini, in some Mr.Bean christmas special? Think he hauled away some enormous sized tree that was like 5 times the size of his car. One of the greatest.

What is that netting/bag thing the tree is in?!?! I've never seen anything like it. Is that something the tree people give you to take the tree home? Here in Oregon if there is a big parking lot (aka large store like a supermarket) there is a xmas tree dealer. But I've never seen a net/bag thing like that in over 25 years.

My tree is a fakie....7 feet tall but came disassembled in a box. No problem getting THAT in the MINI!

They put the tree through a round metal ring like device and the netting slides onto the tree as it passes through. It's the only way I would have let it up there really. Every Christmas tree place I've been to, be they in Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin has them.

This was the first time I haven't cut down my own tree. Kind of a strange feeling to not have to wonder through a field for 30 minutes looking for the perfect tree.

In terms of attaching the tree this is what we did:

After getting the tree up there we tied rope to the latches in the door. They're the silver square loops (if that makes any sense) that the door attaches too that you only see when it's open. That rope was put around the front of the tree to keep it from sliding forward or left and right. The other rope was tied to the black square loops that the rear seats attach to (that you only see when they are down). It was then run through the back part of the front windows and around the middle of the tree to keep it stable. Okat that probably just confused everyone.

That "Mr. Bean" episode was titled "Mr. Bean goes to town" and the object he had tied up to the roof of his little classic Mini was a TV set box. Very funny episode for sure.

There is an even funnier one (Episode name escapes me) where Mr. Bean goes to the hardware store and he has so much junk inside the little car that he has no choice but to drive it from above the roof (a la horse carriage) complete with cords attached to the steering wheel, pedals, etc...so funny I had stomach ache for 3 days...
