R50/53 Final Considerations After Engine Swap?
Final Considerations After Engine Swap?
Hey guys,
tomorrow my new (used) motor will be good to drop back in my car. This is my first engine swap ever so I want to make sure I’m covering all of the bases. What are the precautions, steps, etc to ensure this is successful?
So far aside from ensuring all fluids are in the car and doing a few no spark cranks to get oil moving all I can think of is the clutch break in (obvious). What else should I be doing?
Thanks!

i bought a new one to install but after hearing how bad they are I’m tempted to just keep rocking mine lol
The way I did it was;
-open up bleed valve on new cylinder
-submerge bleed valve and pipe in hole in dot 4
-pump the plunger a few times
-take out and turn so plunger pointing down
-using a pre made tool compress the plunger and bolt tool on
-fit to the car and bleed again as you normally would, I used a pressure bleeder.
The tool is just a flat bar about 4-5 inches long, drill 2 holes same distance as slave bolt holes, in between those holes start drilling a hole but not all the way through, to stop the plunger slipping to the side. Using 2 bolts tighten the bar so it holds the plunger in, its messy as it will push all the dot 4 you pumped in earlier, out.
That worked for me, sounds hard but it's actually quite easy.
However, that worked for me, I only had to do it because I swapped out a midland gearbox for a getrag and the slave cylinder is in a different place.
