Best known tune (canned or otherwise) as of 2022

Didn't see any stickies about this topic (sorry if I missed it, checked the modifications thread as well), but want to finally get my car tuned and unsure of who offers the best tune.

There was a time I was for sure going to go through RMW for my tune, but I keep reading more stories that he's not really around these days, not responding to emails/calls, etc. I had talked to Way, but they only tune with 380s.

I have an 05 r53 with the RMW street cam, RMW header with cat, Nvidia exhaust, 440cc injectors, 17% pulley, DDMWorks intake, one step colder plugs, valeo single mass flywheel conversion, etc.

I have a second car so I can ship my ECU if I need to, just want to finally try and get everything sorted and all parts playing nicely with each other (the car actually runs pretty good, but I know it could be better).

Any input on who to talk to, individual or company, would/will be greatly appreciated. And if this belongs in a different forum, please move it as needed.

Thank you in advance!

Jason

Personally with that much kit I would want a dyno tune.

For sure, just not sure who does that with the mods I have. Looking for a referral for a company or person who could tune it best without worrying about if I'll ever see my ECU again if I ship it off.

I would go with RMW. . .

Of course I've already done that several times as my mods have progressed in stages over more than a decade.
Jan is definitely working and busy. Earlier this week I called and left a morning message and he returned my call that afternoon, with good info.

Some parts are in short supply and/or running way behind from suppliers, but that doesn't effect tunes. One delay example he cited on the call was OS Giken, who had quoted six weeks delivery, but when that passed, quoted six weeks again. It's hard to make time commitments stick with that going on from lots of suppliers, and I've heard that from other (non-Mini) engine builders also. Lots of supply chain delays.

RMW does remote tunes on DynaPack (DynaPack tuning shops in Everett & Tacoma may work for you), or you could always decide to go for a 18 hour vacation drive to Disneyland (you can almost hear some of the rides from his shop) to do it in-person. If you do drive, Jan will meet you at Church Automotive in Long Beach. Church has three calibrated dynos, and do a lot of R&D work for performance companies and car magazines in the LA area.

I haven't used Adrian, but a number of people have reported good experiences, including Mr. Blah.
The OP has a number of RMW pieces, and it seemed to me that he was interested Jan's tune if he was in fact available. Adrian is one of the few viable alternatives for a custom dyno tune, which is really the way to go.

Thanks guys, really the only reason I have the rmw parts was just a matter of circumstance and right place and right time (picked up most of my modification parts second hand, all in good shape and still running strong for 10 years).

I have sent Adrian a message, glad to hear the votes for his skill set as a tuner though, I appreciate everyone's input. Thank you again!

SuprCoop, very interested to hear more on the tune from Adrian. I'm pretty intrigued by this remote tune, as I've heard other members mention it, but not really in the detail. Did you get it done? Any info you care to share? I'm all ears.

Just got the tune flashing equipment yesterday, talking to him now about my modifications and such, will keep this post updated as we go and once it's all done. I've read a few other people quite satisfied with his tune, so I don't imagine I'll be disappointed. And it's got to be better than the factory tune with all my modifications LOL

Update: Nastase (adriancl) tuned my car Wednesday afternoon. I haven't driven it much since then, but the little bit I have... I'm very very happy. No more check engine light, it's got quite a bit more punch than before (it was already pretty quick), and he tuned in a bit more after run to produce more popping on deceleration (it's got a nice, crisp crack to it. First time I heard it I thought something broke or a gun went off 😂&#129315.

Really great experience, the tune along with a test drive and him installing NCS expert/dummy on my laptop for me was smooth and seamless (be aware that you need a specific cable to use NCS to modify settings on your car), and took about an hour. Plus I still have the factory settings file if I ever need to return the car to stock (but really, why would I &#128514.

And the price was very reasonable. One reason I'd waited for so long to get the tune was the cost of tuning with RMW (on average about $1000, for the dyno, equipment, his time/tune, etc.). I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend contacting him if you're thinking of getting a tune for your mods. Thanks@adriancl !

+1 on the Adrian tune. I went from 176.5hp to 193.5hp (at the wheel, dynoed before to set a benchmark, and after) with his remote tune [after 380cc injector install and a switch to an MS5150 ECU (facelift version)] on my 2004 S. I couldn't be happier with the experience.

Whats the rough cost that you pay for his tunes? I know each tune will be slightly different therefore cost more/less but it'd be nice to have a solid middle ground reference point

I believe its about $175. If you want exactly how much he charges, just send him a pm. He'll let you know what you need to complete the tuning and the price of it.

He charges about 120-175 USD$ and its a CUSTOM tune for your car and your cars exact mods and what you'd want tweaked even throttle input ,cooling fan turn on speeds, ectectect he does it ALL.
You need a laptop and to purchase a mppsv18 or something like that he can tell you exactly but he will remote connect to it laptop to your car even and 2x check to make sure its all running well. So i suggest a 20$ inpa cable too so you can check things and reset certain things and parameters.. all in all for 200$ . Its the best 200$ you can spend on ur car.. and he will always be able to also adjust for future mods too..
if your even debating it ooooooooone bit , DO IT. TRUST ME DO IT ! Here's mY 1st experience with Adrian and tuning via the master( Adriancl)

As the others have said, contact him to find out what he would charge to tune your car as each vehicle price is different based on the modifications you have installed and what it takes to get it running properly, and I second the purchase of the INPA cable.

Just did my tune with Adrian last weekend. I installed a 15% pulley, RMW dominator cam, RMW headers, CAI, 450cc injectors. He helped me through all the process, and helped me find out I had a bad MAP sensor. Now the car pulls like a train. Don't even think about it. Do it

Just had my car tuned by Adrian. Unfortunately there still to much snow and garbage on the roads to take her out for the road test, but we'll do another session to make sure everything works fine.

Very nice guy ! Highly recommend !

I've had several cars with tunes from both Jan & Adrian. Adrian wins, no contest.

Still a huge thumbs up for Natase (Adrian), had a couple lingering issues after the initial tune which he provided support for without question. Unfortunately I'm having some transmission issues so I haven't been able to drive the car that much, but the couple times I did after the last update, still very very happy and impressed. And at a fraction of the cost of other tuners.

Is yours an automatic? If so, was Adrian able to tune the transmission as well? I don't know if it's in the ECU, or its own separate controller.

No, mine's a manual, but I'm having an issue with the input shaft bearing and waiting for a friend to get back from traveling to buy his LSD gearbox, but that's a whole other story.
