I figured I would post this while it is still fresh in my mind. I did it my way and there may be different or correct ways other than the way I did it.
I didn't use any adhesive promoter and I have not had any issues so far. I used the same method on the radio down tube and the paint seems to be working well, even after removing the tubes 3 or 4 times messing with the SRS module. I am in no way a paint and body guy so your results may vary.
I took the panels off the door first .
I cut small strips of blue painters tape and then carefully used the back end of steak knife to gentle push the edge of the tape under the speaker cover. I used the same method for the arm rest.
Some small scrapes on the shiny silver I was able to buff out with Meguiars medium cut cleaner. I sprayed some dull aluminum into the spay can lid and used a bread tie end to carefully fill in any chips. The dull aluminum paint was not a perfect match for the shiny silver but much better than it was.
I cleaned the shiny silver with alcohol so I could get the tape to stick. I had shiny Meguiars on the red part of the door so the tape would only stick to the shiny silver or on the backside of the door panel. I used cardboard on the passenger door of the inside panel (pocket), and I had a little paint overspray that got on the door pocket. A little alcohol and paper towel action and it came right off. I used Walmart plastic bags on the drivers door, a little easier to secure and no overspray.
I used fine grit sandpaper to feather the old paint that has been worn away and any deep scratches. I gave everything a light sand and then cleaned the parts 4 or 5 times with alcohol until the paper towel was clean. Used a little alcohol in a spray bottle to get the inside of the door speaker and the tweeter. I used light coats of paint, about 4 or 5 passes till everything was covered nicely. I waited about 20 to 30 minutes between coats and about an hour after the final coat of paint. I did the same steps with the high gloss clear. I let it dry for about an hour after the last coat of clean and then mounted the panel back on the car.
I didn't do anything to the shiny paint except buff out some light scratches and filled in a few scrapes.
I close my door with the arm rest so I don't know how well it will hold up to the test of time. It's also not a show car or daily driver either. That's the way I did it so right or wrong it looks a million times better than what I started with.
How did you manage to not clump on the speaker grating? just light light sprays, quick passes? I'll def need to do this for the downtubes, as my leg always rests there and I wore the paint off on my last R53.

Yes light sprays and long passes with 10 to 15 minutes in between color coats. Longer wait in between going from color to clear. I rushed on my tubes and I think I didn't let it dry long enough before applying the clear. The drivers side tube looks good but there is an area on the passenger tube that is kind of dull. It's mainly covered by the glove box but I might pull the tube and sand it and respray it. I should have done the ring around the shifter and the cup holders, just for uniformity.
