ABS,DSC,TPMS lights on after Wheel Speed Sensor Failure

Hi Everyone! I have a 2002 Mini Cooper S. About 3 months ago, i was on the highway when my passenger rear spring snapped in half. The spring ended up putting a LOT of force on the wire going to the wheel speed sensor and stretched it out causing it to fail. I Got the ABS, TPMS, And DSC light all stuck on. I replaced the sensor recently, reset the ecu(through Speedo and via Battery disconnect), and cleared the code (P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS) - Circuit Malfunction)/(Mini Code: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A") But after i drive the car a little bit, all of the lights come back on, and eventually the code comes back too. I am unsure what the problem might be, I triple checked the connector, and everything looks fine visually. Im worried that maybe the harness itself in the floor may have been damaged. Anyone Have any ideas? Thanks!

Hmm are u sure all sensors are now good?

try a reset, the tire presure button near the hand brake. Turn key to position 2, press and hold button for three seconds or so, start car and drive

that was from memory so double check the faq here on the forum

I used a foxwell scanner for my R53, it told me specifically which sensor was out. Is yours just obd? You might find more info with the Mini codes. Could be more than one sensor, could be a chafed wire.

Agreed, you need a tool that tells you which corner is bad. In addition, my case was a good sensor, but a damaged bearing ( the induction ring that talks to the sensor was damaged ).

You may want to take your wheels and rotors off and clean where the sensor looks at the hub/bearings...I did this a while back. Can't recall if you have to take the hubs out, but it is not a difficult job.

So i got ahold of a K+Dcan OBD cable and some INPA software, and gave the ecu a scan and found it is the front right sensor showing a fault. The code p0500(wheel speed sensor A malfunction) means its a 50/50 shot at being the front left or right sensor. guess i just got unlucky replacing the front left :| oh well, atleast i can finally fix this pesky issue. Thanks to everyone for the tips and help!

Abs Wheel speed problem after being replaced

Need help I have 3 codes 5D8C, 5D99, 5DB2. I have replaced the rear left wheel speed sensor with a bosh OEM parts number and the wheel bearing with a NSK OE one on that side. Another symptom besides the codes is the rear left is always reading a speed input no matter if the car is moving or not. These problems started when I put on the R56 trailing arms on to my 05 r53. I am using R56 speed sensors and r53 wheel bearings. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

and they were new and are the sensors oem or Chinese because these cars are very picky when it comes to sensors.. I got lucky using Amazon speed sensors and ebay hubs...
do you have a good enough scanner to correctly and fully clear the codes ?
I dont remember exactly how we fixed my buddies lights with his r56 rwar arms but i swear we were able to use the r53 sensors with some tinkering and I believe once we'd did that it immediately fixed the abs and Trac lights..

Yep, everything I’ve read indicates you have to use the r53 sensors, not the r56.

Interesting to know! I have a 04 MCS that has the tire pressure (weird bc my wheels do not have sensors), and DSC light (not the trifecta, but close). I've replaced all the wheel speed sensors with OE replacements (no Chinese ebay specials that do not work) I still have the lights. I have never checked the hubs... Now I have to go and look.

extra note: I also rebuilt the steering angle sensor as I keep getting a weird code that seems to point to it.

Question, did you reset the dsc with circle driving left and right, akak figure 8 and also do the tpms reset?

these are a lot like my wife’s old e83 that measures tire revolutions compared to steering angle sensor to determin3 if there is slip, deflating tire, etc. that was iirc the correct reset for the dsc after it got triggered but google it to be sure.
