Hello everybody…

I thought you guys would be interested in this. Was reading Road and Track today, and found their specs on the Cooper and Cooper S… then I compared them with a ton of other cars on the market. The S has the fastest slalom speed on the market! Not bad for a $20k car, no?

Specs taken from Road & Track Magazine, January 2003, Vol. 54, #5

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to type all of that out! Wanted to pick up the magazine today, but now I can wait until tomorrow.

How great is it that the MINI S is the fastest car for this test!

There's no doubt that the handling of the MINI is superb, especially given it's low price. However, in the interest of accuracy, I will have to point out there are several new cars on the market that play at the MINIs slalom level and at a competitive price.

I see that neither the new Mazdaspeed Protege nor the new Neon SRT-4 are mentioned in the Road & Track performance summaries. Given the results published by Sport Compact Car Magazine, I would expect that Road & Track will soon report that these two cars are at least as quick through the slalom as the MINI.

Yeah, I was reallty wishing they had teh specs for the SRT-4 in this month's mag so I could post them as well... sounds like an incredible car... but I wouldn't buy one for two reasons...

1. Ugly as sin
2. Its an American car - hate to say it, but American build quality is pretty shoddy.

I'd imagine its performance numbers will closely rival or beat the S's...

However, a Mini is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000 times cooler than a Neon.

I know that comparing either of the 2 models of MINI's to a McLaren isn't really fair, due to being in separate classes of vehicles. But it's way too cool to be able to beat a million dollar car in any aspect of racing, with a MINI. There's got to be a decal idea for my MCS in there somewhere. Maybe 'McLaren killer' ???? But it's true.
Cheers,

I really hate blanket statements like this, you do realize you bought a british car don't you? Known by people the world over for the worst quality and reliability there is.

Now I love my MC and I will not be even considering an srt-4, but don't say things like that, it only makes you look ignorant.

(waiting for someone to start badmouthing american beer, grrrrrrrrrr!)

SarcuxKSU, I guess you didn't read your info very good, "BMW M5 - V-8 - 400 hp - $69,400 - 5.0 sec - .90g - 94.7 mph - 155 mph. But the MINI is fast, really fast. I must say that Iove M5's and M3's though.

American build quality is good. BMW just came out with a belt driven motorcycle
for 2003....their first. Recalled already. Mini...recall and several pending....
My Harley runs just fine.

Gosh fellas, considering that we're all enthralled with all things MINI, you sure are making some HUGE posts!

Pffft.....you guys are hilarious.
American beer??? You mean that stuff with the word 'Light' after the name brand? Seems like evertime I go to the States, everywhere I go advertises Light beer as the majority of beer offered. As well as commercials, sports events, etc. Nothing against ya'll, but what's up with that?
Cheers,

The Mazdaspeed car will be quick through the slalom, but not the Neon. The SRT will be a good fast straight line car, not a superb handler.

Sport Compact Car hustled the SRT-4 through the slalom faster than the MINI. The Neon may be ugly and cheap-looking, but the Chrysler engineers did their chassis homework. It is one bad **** off-the-line AND in the twisties.

The Neon is a great car.

But then you have to realize...

In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably admit to having a special place in my heart for the Neon.

My mother got a Neon the first year they were available, while I was a senior in high school. At the time they were a very unique design, and garnered a lot of the same attention that MINIs get now.

Anyway, I'll never forget borrowing that car for school, and literally getting mobbed by a pack of girls. They piled into the car without even asking. I kid you not, that car was a babe magnet of the first order, and I always borrowed it for dates. Lots of GOOD memories.

I can't even imagine what it will be like for high school guys who are lucky enough to have a MINI!

**Hmmmmmm..... Are you making a blanket statement that ALL American beer is good? **

ok people, that light lager stuff everyone drinks isnt AMERICAN beer, its the worlds beer and happens to be made in America. Also, america is not the only one that produces such 'top quality' stuff, we got australia and japan in it just as much as us.

anyways, what I consider to be american BEER is stuff like anchor, sierra nevada, sam adams, etc. tehres lots of good companies. and no, all american beer is not good!

hmmm, well that was off topic.

oh, i also remember the ladies going wild for the neon, but girls also loved the geo metro convertible from what I remember... I think by now they all grew up and aren't so easily impressed

I sortof hoped that was what you meant.... I just wanted you say it (and me not put any words in your mouth)!

I agree with you! There really are some VERY good American beers. Although I have additional thoughts, I'll leave it at that.

....back to MINI v. the World!.....

There's so much I could add to that right now,..........But being that it's a family site, I'll leave it.
But yes, aim your car at the Highschool girls, and you'll have swarms of them. It's actually kinda cool. You don't have to do anything. Just make the car work for you. It's soo easy. And if I wasn't taken already, well, let's just say I'd have backup girl to fall back on in no time, if I were swallow enough to use my car as the main attraction to getting girls. But it does make an easy conversation starter to break the ice and get to know eachother. Even the more mature chicks are into the looks and style. Not sure where you're shopping.
It's really working for me. Actually my girl gets REALLY annoyed when girls of all ages come up to me when we're out and check out my car with their flirtatious ways. Think she's starting to wonder if I got this car on purpose for that reason. I'm already on my way to the doghouse, and I haven't even done anything yet. This must be what marriage is like, yes, no?? Doesn't matter where I go. To the mall, restaurants, cruising around, etc. They there are. Not to toot my own horn. Just stating the facts. As I'm sure others can agree to in their situation.
Cheers,

Same thing happens to me... all type of looks and compliments from girls, problem is it most often happens when sitting at the traffic light next to the middle school on my way to work.
