Sports suspension vs. Plus

Can anyone tell me how much of a difference there is in handling and ride and what would be involved in ramping up the MCSC suspension to "plus" type characteristics if I chose to?

I thought MCS suspension was "plus" as standard. i.e. Sport Supension plus.

The MCS suspension is plus. The MCS convertable version however, is not. I'm not sure why, and I only recently came to realize this myself.

I was told

The Mini Cooper Convertible has a better suspension to begin with, so having the sports suspension on the convertible is like having the SS + on a non convertible.

What about it is better? I did not know it was changed except for some body tweaking.

I'm guessing here, but the cabrio is heavier,so the car must come with a suspention that is able to deal with that. The one I test drove handled only like a MINI can

Missing the mark

Ok, let me lay out what my question is in more detail.

I am asking for a comparison between the suspensions on a Mini Cooper S convertable which is the sports suspension vs. the Mini Coopers S hardtop which offers the sports suspension plus.
Does anybody know of or appreciate any significant difference.

The PLUS suspension holds the car from rolling as much, not that these cars roll much, and the back end may not want to come around as much.If you drive hard in twisties, get it,

Yeah, thats the problem. The MCS convertable doesn't offer the "plus" suspension. So I'm wondering if its that much of a difference. The fact is, I'll know when I drive it (and maybe drive someone else's MCS). As it is, even if its an issue, I've already got at least 3000$ worth of mods and options on the list before the suspension. I just wanted to know if anyone else was aware of the issue or had an educated opinion.

I paid 600 bucks or whatever it was for the Sports Suspension on my Convertible, though I didn't test drive one without it. So for all I know they might not have even installed it. I can't tell the difference.

I'm getting the sports suspension because I'm getting the sports package which includes it. But again, the sports suspension plus is not an option available.

Is there a "plain" (ie, non-sport) suspension?

Is there a "plain" (ie, non-sport) suspension, like maybe on a no-options Cooper? So there would be three levels of suspension tune: regular, Sports, Sport Plus? Or is it just the two: Sports and Sport Plus?

Since the convertibles weigh more than the hardtops I would imagine there are differences between the shock valving and spring rates on the two versions. You need to find out the size of the sway bar offerings on the convertibles and compare them to the following hardtop sizes:

Sport = 22.5mm front + 16mm rear
Sport Plus = 24mm front + 17mm rear

I didn't list the sway bar info for the MINI One because it's not available on this side of the pond ... 16mm front and NO rear

The MINI Canada configurator lists Sport Suspension as standard on both the Cooper and Cooper Classic

I used to have an '03 MCS, and I traded it for an MSCS a few months ago. I didn't know that the MCSC didn't have the SS+, and I was disappointed to find a lot more body roll on the new car compared with the old one. I had new front and rear H&R sway bars installed, and it made a huge difference. Corners much better now.

Fantastic...I appreciate the info. That's what I was looking for. Looks like I have another mod to add to the list. How much does an upgrade like that run? Anyone know.
