R50/53 Raised platform in luggage area
Raised platform in luggage area
Trying to make my ‘04 hatchback a bit easier for dog transportation with the seats down by building a raised platform in the luggage area that’s level with the seat backs when folded. Shouldn’t be difficult with some 1/2” plywood and a few wooden dowels for legs but just curious if I’m the only person with this problem or if anyone else has tried this? Or is there a tool/storage case that’s close enough to sit flush with the seat backs?

Well I didn’t want to pull the rear seats so I just made my own out of scraps lying around like roofing plywood, 1.5” pvc pipe for a frame and wrapped it in some scrap rubber backed carpeted floor mat. The seat backs are about 7” off the luggage floor but the rear hatch is only 5” off the floor so I had to cut the legs of the frame to match that slope. I also left 1.5” gap on either side for air flow so the rear vents aren’t blocked. And there’s plenty of space under for storing tools, jumper cables, etc. It held my 275 lb carcass without flexing so two 100lb dogs aren’t a problem.
