Well, we had a guy at one of our club meets who said his 2005 JCW MCSC was around $60K including all his aftermarket stuff!

Oh, considering the topic under discussion, and considering that I was AMAZED by his investment, I clearly remember the number!

I saw a MCS for $66K (CDN) in a showroom and just about had a bowel tremor. That would be about $54,600 (USD). Mind you the thing was loaded to the absolute, but still. And then there's the aftermarket stuff still after that. That's nuts. I guess if ya have the bucks, why not. But I can think of better cars to throw that kinda money at. The MINI is great and all, but not that great. That's gettin' close to a gently used new M3. I'd take that over a MINI anyday if the price was the same.
But to each their own and all that crap.
Cheerio,

In my area there are few MINIs that are optioned out at the $40,000+ level.

But there are more than 10 MCS that are modded with aftermarket stuff bringing the total cost well above $40,000+. It's very "easy" to do.
Big ticket mods? Try:
Custom audio/video upgrade
Lightweight large wheels/tires
Full suspension upgrade for track/autocross
Quaife LSD/lightweight flywheel/racing clutch
Aero kit installed and painted
Ported/polished cylinder head/cam and full exhaust header/cat-back system
And much more.

After doing all that, don't forget to drive your MINI.

The kit above had a duplicate item. The JCW air filter. That is already included into the JCW kit price.

I think my '05 MCS was $37-38k after the JCW kit and R90's (that I repainted white). The poster forgot to put in the $1,550 CA markup, 8.25% CA tax, then title, registration, etc. I think I remember my broker saying that those OTD costs come to about 10% of the sell price in CA.

If you add in brakes and 2nd set of wheels/tires, I'm at the $40k level, missing rain sensing wipers, autodim rearview, and chrome line exterior. This is without those extra JCW accessories (other than the engine package) and no soft top.

I have to say though that pretty soon, a fully loaded MCS, with all of the JCW goodies is going to be way overpriced. If I had the JCW 18's, BBK, and suspension I'd be in the 45k+ range which would only be $5k less than a brand new E46 M3 out the door at MSRP. Also you have cool cars like the C6 vette in that price range which basically has 2x the hp of the 05 JCW MCS.

Then again, I guess there are people that really want $60k+ MINI's and I'm not one to stop them from enjoying their cars...

Hassel also had $900 wax treatments on in stock cars when I looked there 2 years ago.

Maybe they just attract rubes (IMHO)

Never mind that...How about figuring what you actually pay with your loan.

Unless you paid cash for yours.

expensive minis

My black/white w/stripes 2003 mcs with sport, premium, cold, leather seats, auto sensing whipers, auto dark rear view mirror and auto ac was about $24,000 plus tax. ($26,000)
15% pulley installed, $400
milltek catback, $750
alta cai $200
mth software $70
kosei k1 $800
falken ziex $400
chrome rev bezel $60
oem chrome bezel kit $90
carbon brake handle $40
oem carpet mat set $100
oem rubber front mats $60
constant grinning, priceless.
So it's about a 30,000 investment including finance fees and all. It's fun to drive, that's important. It'll have to last 10 years without major repairs for me to consider it a good investment. I hope so.

Don't forget that the Harman kardon is another $550, not part of the Premium Package! So we've got ourselves a $42,181 MINI!
