I'd be interested, but I'm not paying $450 for taillights.

I'm just pointing out there are different options at different price points.

Same goes for suspension (Bilstein B4 vs KW v3), brakes (OEM vs Willwood BBk), exhausts etc.

There's a guy in Vietnam, Mai Hoang (aka FattyRobot, insta: @fattyrobotminiblvd), that makes these and sells via his Facebook page:
Facebook Post

* DIY Easy price : 275$ free shipping ( worldwide )
DIY Easy = Unionjack face + Rear cover + Jack + Wiring + new front glasses

I've ordered a set for the hell of it... will report back, but it may be a while since he's a one-man show and very backordered right now.

FYI - Mai Hoang just told me he set up a $20 USD discount code for members here to use: schmeedMINI20
Keep in mind, he makes these to order, by hand, so it takes time.

Admins: If this does not conform to forum post guidelines/policies, please let me know and I will move/modify/delete as necessary - thank you!!

I ordered mine a couple days before Christmas via fbook Messenger. He told me straight away that he was very backlogged, but for me that wasn't an issue because the Mini I'm putting these on is in storage. I'd suggest just sending him a message to ask. He seems to be caught up now because he sent me a pic of the package ready for post. He's very responsive and pleasant!

I did! I'll take a few pics and post them here. Let me know if there are other angles or details you'd like me to capture.

Initial observations...
Subjective: Yet to be installed and they look really slick right out of the package. I can't wait to see them on the Mini and all lit up, because the translucent colored plastics inside the lens are vibrant and seem really well crafted to make the Union Jack form. These are what he called the "Dark Red" color.

Objective: I can see that they're hand-made. When inspected up very close I see very very subtle signs of the internal plastic bits having been hand-shaped (i.e. not mass-produced), but I'm really trying hard here to pick out any nuanced variations.. in color, texture, shape, etc. There's absolutely nothing off-putting at all to me (subjective). There aren't any machine-formed seams or form markings that I've observed, and there's evidence of hand-applied rubberized type sealant, glue, and paint. The lenses appear clear and without any blemishes or deformations, and have an appealing curvature to them (subjective). I can't quite tell whether they're of the same type/density of acrylic/plastic used for OEM without a side-by-side comparison. I'll check this and other things such as fitment during installation and report back.

Full disclosure: I actually love the fact that these are hand-made, and we have a direct line to the person making them. If you have suggestions for how to improve them, or maybe even design requests, you know who to ask and how to reach them. Hope this has been helpful no matter your decision to buy or not, so please let us know what you end up doing! /cheers

Awesome, thanks for the effort! If I would buy them, I would choose the same color scheme. How it looks on the rear isnt important for me, as long as the build quality "feels" good. Also the lighting should be bright enough off course, as being visible is important.

Keep us posted when you found the time to fit them!

Nice find - I've been waiting for these for a couple years now! It seems there are two UK vendors that are offering what appear to be the same Union Jack tail lights for the first gen models (R50, R52, R53). They are SMPS2012 and Killallchrome.co.uk... I prefer these to FattyRobot's layout, as they fill the available space better and flow with the contours of the housing.

Killallchrome has a YouTube video with the lights being installed and demonstrated - my only hold-up at the moment is that the amber turn indicator does not use the entire center section (St. George's Cross, I believe). Instead, the upper section of the cross is reserved for the brake lights.

I reached out to Killallchrome via email to see if they would be willing to change this in the future. They also sell R56 Union Jack tail lights that use the entire center section for the amber turn indicator, so I wondered if there was some kind of regulatory requirement that they were meeting by having the additional brake lights.

They are expensive, but at least they are being offered now. Hopefully Helix or another manufacturer jumps on the bandwagon and will give us another option. I'll be saving my pennies in the meantime.

Watching. Pricing still stops my heart, but there just aren't many options for a good replacement taillight that isn't chrome, and fits with the design.

Just updated with pictures. No led headlights, just these and then do the led conversion. https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2005-...s/US_Spec_Set/ and h7 conversions https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2005-...ng/Headlights/

I just got a set from Vietnam last week. Hand made, and dealt directly with the guy who made them. I like them, and they work well. However, he needs a better way to communicate, and a better ordering system. I'm in talks with him to be a dealer for him for Canada. Apparently he has somebody taking care of the US market.
