Gold Mini

I have had my Solid Gold Mini since June. I have seen posted in several places pictures of others. I have even seen one other SG/B Mini in Charleston.

Question is how many other people have one?

Is mine just more unique than I thought?

When I was ordering my Mini in April 04, I was told Solid Gold was the rarest color (or least popular, depending on your point of view). From what I've seen, you won't be seeing many Mini's that look like yours.

Well, I see someone has faster fingers than I do.

But like the song says she likes a man with slow hands.

Hey Earl! Since SCMM has more than 600+ members, I'd say that list of yours needs some updating!

Solid Gold has been growing on me. I don't have a MINI yet, but when I do order I am 99% sure mine will be solid gold. And irony of ironies I would go with out a contrasting roof color. I am considering a MightyStripes offest stripes in black.

Chili Red is far too common. MrsDiff doesn't like Liquid Yellow. Black would be nice but they require detailing every day. Pure Silver would be nice but also a common color here in Indy.

Solid Gold was the first MINI I had seen in person, and it looked great against a sunset on Grand Traverse Bay. It was what persueded me to test drive a MCS.

Was thinking of calling my Auric. Or Goldeneye. Wouldn't even put the name GoldMember on a pontiac Aztech or Sicon XB

Solid Gold is great color. I don't think it's very popular because metallic colors aren't replicated on the computer screen very well. A majority of people select their color online and the SG looks very flat. For those that go into a dealer first, they select from what they see and no dealer is going to have a SG in stock. I bought mine used but I had a brochure before deciding on a color. The brochure had a number great shots of an SG and that's what sold me. I guess I was really fortunate to have found a used one within 100 miles of my (old) home. I have gotten nothing but compliments about the color. If you see it in person, you would agree that pictures don't do it justice. It's far deeper and richer to the eye. I highly recommend it.

The funny thing is that I was debating between the SG and a 2002 VR that was available at that same time but a little further away (<150). The wife wanted the VR but in the end, the SG had 7k miles (vs. 38k for the VR) and was being offered for $500 less. The choice was obvious. Sorry Dear.

FYI: The Goldmember is vehicle is a Sparrow originally built by Corbin (of motorcycle seat fame) but is no longer being built. It's electric and has 15 Optima gelcell batterys. They ran into problems with the failed claims of Optima being able to withstand thousands of deep-cycles. In the end, no commerically available fuel cell was capable of being inserted into the car that would meet their goals for range and power delievery.

fj0, Cosmos Black is metallic and Jet Black is not. The sparkle of Cosmos is subtle and very nice. I love the rich, deep black color of my Wanda's Jet Black paint!

I think Solid Gold is a gorgeous color, but unfortunately, many people think that Gold looks tacky on a MINI and therefore its unpopularity. I personally prefer Velvet Red to Solid Gold and it is a shame that MINI axed VR for the even slower selling Gold.

I fear that an used Solid Gold MINI will be a very hard sell because of the above.
