From what I understand, that cps seal will definitely leak at some point way before 100k. They have the front end off to do the a/c most likely, so it should be nearly free to put a new seal in.

am I a fool?

Yikes!!!

My bill just grew by about a grand! The issue stems from the low speed cooling fan not operating correctly...overheating the a/c parts. I do recall some sort of a recall by MINI years ago. Oh well.

Methinks that a brand new low end Mercedes will be in my parking space soon. I guess.

I'm bummed.

OEM p/s cooling fan and grille is maybe $200 but shouldn’t have much do do with the a/c overheating.

OEM new radiator fan is like $450.

not sure what they are replacing, but seems like the labor they are charging is ridiculous.

like they are charging the full labor rate to replace the fan, even though they have everything apart for the a/c.

with the a/c job I just did, the guy would have thrown in the side and upper engine mount for no extra labor if I had the parts already. And didn’t charge any extra for the belt tensioner install when doing a/c.

reupping my initial response.
You're not a fool. But you are wise to find an independent mechanic. Dealership service departments are not your friend. A good indy mechanic can save you thousands, starting with that clutch job alone.
If you are going to be paying Braman, you are going to sink a lot of money into this car. I would not trust them at all.

Your money.

Seems like they thoroughly diagnosed the problem and did everything right. It would make since that the fan not operating properly would cause your compressor to overheat and fail prematurely.

it does look like about 11 hours of labor at $125/hr is what they are charging you. OEM parts cost is really jacking up the price quite a bit.

The labor rate is pretty normal for this area of FL. Just seems like that’s way too many hours and no real labor breakdown to get to that total.

Let me know if you wanna try my mobile mechanic if something comes up in the future. You could save enough to own a second mini, not that it would make sense to do that.

[QUOTE=Monkey Juice;4558576] My god!!

Whilst backing into a seldom used parking space...I discovered this when I opened the passenger door!!!! Luckily, not even a scratch wounded my little red monster. I was not able to see the concrete beam...I guess? I need to pay more attention.

Close. Hack. Spit. Repeat.

All the best,

Foolish Mark

I'd agree, except the OP appears to have spent something close to $13,000 in repairs.
Over five years, that's $200/mo.

For double that, you can buy a late model Mercedes with a warranty and not be stressing about "what's that noise?"

Just avoid the 4 cylinder Mercs and you'll be ok.

Well...I've probably spent closer to $18,000 in repairs since the warranty expired. But I adore the car...so I don't really care. And I did add a new chariot to the stable recently. An impulse purchase. I still prefer the old MINI.

Motor on,

Mark

A problem with stuff like that is you might have seen it pulling in, but easy to forget when pulling out. I can imagine turning the wheel a bit when pulling out and the car hitting the post. Adding something to the top to make it visible from inside the car might be good for your MINI or any other car you might park there.
