I’ve just acquired a neglected ‘04 MC40. I’ve seen a few threads addressing possible reproduction decal sets, but nothing about the number plate for the console. Is anyone reproducing those?
Secondly, as mine is missing, is there a database where ai could find out what number of 1000 I have?
And third, are there reproduction carbon fiber dash pieces out there?
thanks
Chris It has had an incorrect respray. 😢 Driver seat needs recovering. And the carbon dash trim is trash.
Unfortunately, there is no source for the number plate. The VIN will not tell you the number/1000 since the MC40 package was a $7,000 option and dealer-installed on a factory-sourced Chili Red/White Top S. The decals, and the magnetic door number plates, can be sourced at Firestorm Graphix - good quality and service. They did a great job on mine. Contact Joel Flick on Facebook. He's creating an online database for MC40s, including VIN, owner, #?/1000, location, etc.
Thanks for the recommendation for Firestorm Graphic. I've seen others mention them, but hadn't noticed anyone saying they were necessarily happy with them LOL. I'll look for Mr. Flick. Per the owners manual for my car, it originated at MINI of Dallas, so I contacted them today, as a long shot. I'm not holding my breath that they'll have anything on it though..
If you're ever down Dallas way PM me and we'll grab a beer and talk about MC40s. I've done an extensive amount of refurb work on mine, plus added quite a few hidden performance goodies (so that I don't change the appearance package). Let me know if you need repair sources because I've dealt with most of them.

This is super cool. Looks like it’s had a happy life somewhere in the burning sun. I love to see cars that have been properly enjoyed like this! I’m particularly fond of the warped carbon fibre dash. Congratulations on the awesome pickup.
I too recently picked up an R53 and began a similar thread to you and have received wonderful help from this forum along the way. I’m still working on mine but have made some great strides in repairing the battle damage. learning as I go
re. The dash itself, I think you might be able to work with what you’ve got especially as it’s quite a valuable set. If it was me, I’d pull one if the pieces off and try a series of sanding grits on one of the edges where it won’t matter too much if it doesn’t work well. What you want to try to do is remove some of the shiny clear coat without damaging the carbon fibre that’s beneath it. You might actually find you don’t need to remove all of the clear. Once the unsightly marks are gone, you could try applying a fresh coat of clear coat from a rattle can (you’ll be able to pick one up for around $20 at any body shop)
Maybe start with a 1200 sanding grit and work it gently. If it’s not accomplishing much try a 1000, or 800.

Your saying the MC40's were "created" at the dealer ? Am I reading this correctly ? Seats, and all ? If not mistaken they were "created" at the factory...The only thing I'm aware of with "dealer" involvement was the application of exterior decals which arrived in an evelope with each car....or if the buyer wanted the JCW upgrade, that was done as an "aftersales installation" at the dealer.
All the MC40's went to the USA. The first 80 cars were produced in Feburary of 2004 at the Oxford plant with "final touches being applied at the Ports". Once the vehicles are completed at the port, one vehicle per dealer were assigned with remainder being evenly built until June in Oxford England.

I own a MINI Parts Bible from the early days of the dealership. I have all the glossy pages of MINI Parts History for every part they made / sold / Installed since 2002-2008. Here's a scan of what I have on the Mc40 for aftersales parts.

You may be on to something with the carbon fiber. Its not like I can screw it up much worse than it is LOL Well I could, but don't plan to. All the light areas, the clear has cracked and completely separated from other layers or maybe even the CF itself. I'll worry about it after I get the mechanicals straightened out. It has an immobilizer issue, and the clutch is going out.
We have also parted out 3 of them that were unfortunately wrecked beyond repair. I may have a few carbon parts left along with some seats.
And as said before these were NOT dealer built cars. They were factory cars and Port finished. I actually worked at the MINI dealer when they came out and remember doing PDIs on 2 of them as they arrived at the dealer with the MC40 package. Many of them actually sat on dealer lots for a long time unsold as the price increase was not worth it as the car didn't have cruise control or a sunroof which most customers where looking for those options.
Some dealers did install JCW tuning kits prior to sale though and those car are pretty cool, but were really expensive at the time. One of the cars we restored was a JCW dealer install car.
I have no connection with either of these places just as satisfied customer.
Best of luck.

How much did they charge you to re polycarbonite the pieces? I have a chunk missing from a corner vent piece and of course its like 370 bucks for a new one.
Depending on what you want to do, the two options where to have them redo the carbon fiber pieces and the second way is to do a carbon fiber laminate over the plastic dash set, it was just over $500.00, but that doesn't include the cost of the plastic dash set, and the drawback is they can not replicate the JCW logo.
Additionally, you can search high and low for good dash pieces and they are getting harder and harder to find.
I have been trying to find a source for replicating the commemorative plaques (with the availability of the new 3D laser printers e.g., https://glowforge.com/our-products/b...CABEgJKwvD_BwE, this options is very real and affordable).
Maybe we can entice the good folks at WayMotorWorks to throw themselves onto that grenade ... hint, hint, hint. I would be willing to pay $100.00 for a replacement commemorative plaque.
