I finally have all of the parts I need to replace the struts, and links on my Coop. Everything was going well until I lost the support under the steering knuckle. it droped a couple of inches but enough to pull the axle apart. The boot is still on the axle but the axle is disconnected inside of the boot. Is it just a matter of trying to figur eout how to slip it back into place? Can I do this without taking the boot off? Any tips appreciated. THis is normally an easy job but it has been anything but today. Take Care all.
Boot isn't ripped but it is definitely disconnected.Turning the hub only turns to the boot. RIght now the axle is still attached to the hub. Probably going to have to get it out of the hub to have any change of getting it back together.
How to confirm that CV went back together correctly?
Took a break and switched the the drivers side. It went the way it should have gone. Back on the passenger side with the knuckle supported by the struct, I was able to get the CV joint on the axle to slide together again. I have no idea how a CV joint works so is sliding it together good enough or do I need to slide the boot off and confirm that the bearing are where they should be.
Hopefully tomorrow I can go out double check the torques everywhere and schedule an alignment for Monday!
Thanks for the picture. Does explain seem to explain how it works,. Once I got it slipped back in the everything turns all of the way to the other side. Also with it slipped out, I couldn't get the steering knuckle to lined up with the lower ball joint. I got everything back togehter and will take it very slow tomorrow. If the design is like the picture, it is hard to see how it could go back in wrong. When it first happened, the web search brought up a design where that was not the case.
