Issue with CV joint
05 R53 6sp - I had a split cv boot on the inner right cv, so I pulled the axle to replace the boot. Everything came out real easy. Got the new boot on and noticed before getting it back in the car that the outer cv joint seems like it is popped out. It drops down really low and will not pivot in some directions. Might have happened as I was maneuvering it out of the car or while I was removing or installing the inner bearing from the axle. Is there something easy I can do to get it back into place, or do I need to buy a new outer boot so I can pull that one off to fix it?

I ended up pulling the outer boot. I just couldn't get the joint to go back together past the circlip. I was trying to avoid pulling that boot, because then I'd have to replace it even though it looked to be in great shape. The boot was only $12, but I had to wait an extra day for it to come in.
As for the inner joint, there was still a ton of grease in the boot, which didn't seem to be gritty. I wasn't about to spring for an oem axle and I keep reading about nightmares with the affordable axles available online (not lasting long, not being the correct size, etc.). Hopefully my analysis of that inner joint pays off.
