R50/53 AARRGGGHHH! Airbag light won't go off.
Well, I was hoping to avoid the gremlins, but on the way home this evening, the airbag light came on and won't go out
I pulled off the road shut down and restarted 3 times, no dice, I have now disconnected the battery and will wait 15 minutes to see if it will clear up. At the time it happended I had just hit a patch of rough road under hard acceleration in second gear with DSC off. Only 2055 miles on the clock.

Awwwwwwwwww man! I am sorry to hear about that. Maybe it will clear itself up overnight and mysteriously go away as fast as it started. But I am sorry if you have to take it to the dealer.
Sorry to hear about your problem, I just went thru this, but mine came on while on a trip and roadside assistance advised I not drive it--anyway to make a short story long, they had to replace the seat belt interlock?? on the passenger side, hope this is not the case in your situation. The dealer took care of the problem and they were very nice people, the problems started when I had the vehicle returned...
Hang in there!!

I just took my 02 MCS in today to get its airbag light turned off. Was hoping -- based on what I'd read on MCO and MINI2 -- that the problem was either the seatbelt sensor or a faulty cable. The problem turned out to be less clear-cut. MINI service says that I had a "contact problem" in the driver-seat side airbag. They say they've seen this before and that "usually" the problem goes away when the contacts are cleaned. I was told to drive it and see if the light came back on.
I said that sounded a little funky, since you really don't want to take a "wait and see" attitude as far as whether or not your airbags work. Service fortunately agreed with me and said that "if I wanted" they'd go ahead and order a new seat airbag assembly (which includes the perhaps flakey contacts) for installation next week. Unfortunately, they'll need to take the seat apart to install this, and I'm hoping that this doesn't spark some of the seat problems that others have reported.
Anyone else had a similar problem with the airbag itself? BTW, they said that in the case of my problem, the airbag light was truly indicating an airbag that would NOT work in the event it was needed. Apparently the seatbelt sensor problem just causes the light to come on, and the airbag would still deploy if needed.

Uk owner here.. yes we have had the same problems with the air bag light and squeeky seats.. our dealership turned round to us and just replaced the two front seats and changed the conections on the air bag wires to gold from silver.. it worked now the only problem is the gear box and back washer... ahh but we love mini...
Well I just got back from the dealer. The airbag light came on on Thursday. On Friday the service engine soon and the EML lights came on and the car would not run over 3000 rpm. Fortunately the dealer fit me in on Saturday for service and fixed the problem in about four hours. The fuel modular was bad and the airbag light was a loose connection. They also fixed the annoying rattle from the boot latch. All in all not a bad experience and I have nothing but great things to say about the dealership. They were prompt, courteous and the Mini salesman even bought me lunch as I waited around. I was oh so tempted to test drive one of the new S's they had there, but I was able to fend off the urge and I came home with my chili red with white roof cooper and it ran great. By the way, anyone in Southern Cal looking for a cooper, they had quite a few on the lot and even had a good many S's. Its Crevier Mini in Santa Ana, Ca.. I even got in a quick afternoon and evening trip to Disneyland after they were done. For all my Mini friends back east or in the mid west, it was only about 85 degrees today and getting warmer as the weak goes on.(sorry!).
