Noises after clutch replacement..

There seem to be quite a few threads about this in general, but I’m not finding one that fits my situation.

After clutch replacement, test drive exhibited the minor clanking from somewhere seemingly from the transaxle, and some sort of extra clank from the right side during right turns and from right turn back to straight. One spot in the steering that thumped when passed over.

-Replaced right and left cv axles.
(right axle from O’Reilly’s did not come with carrier bearing bracket, but other than that appeared to be a match. Careful not to tug on the cv joints, I transferred the lock ring and bracket from the old axle to the new axle. Could it be that the carrier bearing is slightly crooked in bracket..? There was resistance when rotating the bracket, so I tapped it onto the bearing until it felt right. That wouldn’t seem to be the problem because it only jolts in that one spot on a right turn.. could I have tapped the bracket too far onto the bearing..? Could the lock ring be hitting the bearing when I steer right? Doesn’t seem that the wheel could pull the whole axle given there is play in the cv joints..

-checked suspension torque.

Now, thump is even harder in that wheel spot at about 45 degrees to the right. I had a partner accelerate the car very slowly on jack stands and observed the engine being jolted when it thumps. Also, the wheel snags and stops intermittently like it’s scraping on something. Maybe wheel bearing? (Forgive me if I use incorrect terms). But why would wheel bearing cause a thump that jolts the engine only on that one spot in a turn..?

I’m not 100% sure the axles are in all the way.. When the splines line up, it slips right in until I hear it hit on the inside, but on the right side there is a maybe 1/2” gap between the dust shield(?) and the transaxle. I’ve pulled it back out and put it back in multiple times and that’s as far as it wants to go. I didn’t try hammering it in because I wasn’t sure if it could damage the cv joints.

Today I will remove the axle and re-examine the carrier bearing.

Any ideas?
