R50/53 My car beeps at me....
Has anyone had their beep at them...???
Winter has hit here in NC....not anything harsh of course, but most of your standards, but 20s and 30s in the morning.
After starting the car and driving no more than 5 minutes on these cold mornings, the car will beep once (not the horn, the bell inside) and flash the temperature on the on board computer. It's like it's telling me "hey, it's cold" ....like I didn't know. And I say back to it "hey, I'm going easy on you, get off me".
It only seems to happen once a day, and NOT every day. I can't find any explaination for this in the manual. Has this happened to anyone else? Any Ideas...?

I believe when the temperature hits around 35 or below it alerts you once to indicate possible road freezing conditions. I remember the first time this happened in my bmw it kind of scared me, but the readout panel indicated it was just a temperature alert.
I guess, to you LizzyBobio, it would seem the car is kind of rubbing it in, huh? It would aggravate me to no end to hear it every day, and in your case, probably whenever you start the car.
Which brings another question. Can this function be turned off..? Perhaps it is a programmable parameter in the "Vehicle Memory" system... which, unfortunately, my dealer does not have the software for, anyway.

>>Yeah, it makes sense for people who live in warm climates, up here, where it's 8 freaking degrees today, I don't need my car to tell me that it's cold.
Amen! When I'm scraping ice off of my car, and it's so cold the rear window defroster won't defrost all the way, I know it's freakin cold!
Oh, and nobody panic about the defroster, I don't have a MINI.

Npartist is right, it dings at 37F and then flashes to let you know the roadwaysmay be icy. It should do it everytime the temp falls below 37F. If you start the car and it is already below 37F, you get a cool dual tone chime, the normal chime and the cold weather chime directly after the first one. Maybe that's why it doesn't seem to you to do it every time.

While BMW is at it, why don't they install an automatic reminder not to use your hair dryer in the tub when you get home? I don't like this feature. When I'm in for the 10k service, I'm going to see if this can be removed, along with the auto door locking at 10 mph.

I am kinda glad my MINI doesn't lock the doors automatically. I like to be in control of that kinda thing.

>>I have never heard that beep before. Of course it nevers gets to 37 in South Florida!
It is for this reason that I am moving to South Florida as soon as I possibly can.

The auto door locking is a programable feature that can be changed but I think the "Black ice" warning is part of the temperature gauge and cannot be changed.

Does this chime work when you have NAV? I don't believe I've heard it yet - and GOD KNOWS it has been cold enough (9 degrees when I left this morning!)
Does it make a difference that Molly is kept warm in the garage? Does the chime only sound when you start the car? Of course, I should have heard it when at the store or some other time not at the house....
Anyone?

Driving down the highway yesterday I kept hearing a beeping from the car. I got frightened and shut the music down, turned the heat down and told the passenger to listen. He said I was nuts cause he couldnt hear anything but I could defenitley hear a beeping. Well to make a long story short it was NOT the car, my cel phone was lodge up against soemthing and the number keys were being pressed causing it to beep continuosly.
When I first got the car it beeped indicating the freezing point but today it was like 10 degrees and I heard no beeps.

The MINI sputters and gasps like Speed Buggy, and then a recorded female voice begs for a glass of water. And if anyone doubts that this is a BMW, the voice has a german accent.
What?
It's true...
Really.
